What a fantastic launch at Claregalway Castle last night. A huge turn out to congratulate Prof John Waddell on the publication of a wonderful festschrift.
Launch of #Festschrift for John Waddell, em. Prof #Archaeology @uniofgalway.bsky.social took place this evening in summer-like weather. Publisher #FourCourtsPress, authors of the 11 chapters & colleagues & friends of John from far & wide greatly enjoyed the occasion in #Claregalway medieval castle

The double bypass without strings for Baile Chláir (Claregalway) just shows there's little science behind any of this. It's bad planning begets bad traffic which begets sloppy fixes.

The damage done by decades of underinvestment in public transport (and healthy transport) needs to be undone.

On 28 June 1327 John Magnus de Cogan endowed the Franciscans of Claregalway with lands - in return they were to present him & his heirs in perpetuity with a rose on the Feast of John the Baptist, 24 June.

Visited Kilcornan woods with @timoceallaigh.bsky.social in Claregalway to record bryophytes. Good finds were Lophocolea heterophylla, Drepanolojunea hamatifolia & Cephalozia curvifolia. Was also nice to see hazel trees & stonewalls covered in Neckera crispa.

Photos from #Montiagh, 9 km NE of #Galway city on floodplain of Clare river. Whooper swans making the most of the bright sunny day. A sight to behold. Occasional pairs of mute swans must be wondering what all the 'whooping' was about.

You'd swear FF hadn't been the party in power that allowed the development of Claregalway and Oranmore with insufficient wastewater treatment, sporting and community infrastructure.
You could read this and think Cllr Keane is actually interested in doing something about this.
