A photo taken on 12 August 1985, according to my notes. The notes, however, don’t say, where I’ve taken this photo. The trip was from #Glasgow, departing early morning, to #London Euston over the West Coast Main Line. So probably Glasgow Central?
The loco could be a BR #Class87.

87018 ‘Lord Nelson’ in what was my favourite iteration of InterCity. Yes, the nameplate was too close to the red band, but I loved those big yellow wrap round cabs and black numbers. Happy times for these WCML giants.

A Northbound service to Glasgow Central sits in the platform at Carlisle. The whistle blows, the fans start to run, a blast of the horn and 87017 ‘Iron Duke’ eases its train onward. Intercity in its heyday, hugely missed.

Sporting its full on InterCity livery and branding, 87022 ‘Cock o’ the North’ is seen stabled at Edinburgh Waverley. It was always a bit of a novelty seeing these locos at Edinburgh following the electrification of the line to Carstairs.
