HYDE PARK — A longstanding Jamaican restaurant and bar is set to close next week after nearly two decades in Chicago — more than a decade of which has been spent on the South Side. Ja’ Grill, 1510 E. Harper Court, will close Monday, management posted to the restaurant’s Instagram page Wednesday. Ja’ Grill — whose menu features Jamaican classics like curry goat, jerk chicken, ital stew, oxtail and Escovitch red snapper — spent seven years on the North Side before moving to Hyde Park in 2014 as one of the first tenants in the Harper Court redevelopment. “From our beginnings in Lincoln Park to our home in Hyde Park, these past 19 years have been filled with unforgettable memories, meaningful connections and an overwhelming amount of love and support,” the Instagram post reads. “We invite you to join us throughout the week to share a meal, raise a glass, reminisce and celebrate 19 wonderful years together before our final goodbye.” Ja’ Grill will remain open during its regular hours, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, before closing next week. Block Club left a message with a Ja’ Grill staffer Wednesday afternoon, seeking to speak with owner Tony Coates about the closure. A representative for the University of Chicago’s commercial real estate arm did not immediately respond to a request for comment. > View this post on Instagram Ja’ Grill opened at 1008 W. Armitage Ave. in Lincoln Park in 2007. The North Side location closed unexpectedly after the Harper Court location was announced. The restaurant also opened a North Lawndale location in April 2022 that closed seven months later, according to Eater Chicago.
