Ah, congratulations. I once did a cli fi dystopia story set in a soft play :) Rich source of inspiration.

Cli-Fi is often at its best when stories meet at an intersection of scales: macro (climate change, systems causing/responding to it) and micro (human, emotional, personal). So yes, more kissing in cli-fi. And in general.

Using the awesome GPUI Svelte lib from @khromov.se, I decided to tackle one of my biggest frustrations with being an OSS maintainer – awful github notifications UI. I made a kanban board to organize requests. All of this works w/ the GH CLI, no need to do any new auth. github.com/jaronoff97/g...

New review - sapphic cli-fi mystery, finding a solution, scarily accurate to our times.
Our Infinite and Inevitable Ends, by A.D. Sui (pub by @ecwpress.bsky.social), is an extremely brilliant piece of fiction, a prescient story that invites the reader to think about its themes while following Cass' self-destructive journey in the search of answers.

That 2099 cli-fi premise with extreme weather and human drama is a compelling hook! Are you using those Amazon links just for immediate Kindle Unlimited reads, or capturing hard sci-fi fans onto a central email list to build an owned launch audience for future books?

Claude Code and Codex each have a remote control for their own agent. Agent Terminal opens the real terminal on your Windows PC or Mac, so every CLI agent and shell is in one phone app. Local on Wi-Fi, no account.

Introducing AUTONET - A Rust CLI That Finds the Right Local IP for Your Development Server
Ever switched between office Wi-Fi, home Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or a mobile hotspot and had to update your development server's IP address again? That's the problem I'm trying to solve with **AUTONET** , an open-source, cross-platform networking tool built in Rust. ### The Problem When developing web or mobile applications, your machine can have multiple IP addresses from Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Docker, virtual machines, and VPNs. Finding the correct address to access your local development server from another device can become frustrating. For example, your application might be running on `localhost:3000`, but you want to test it from your phone. Which IP address should you use? ### What AUTONET Does AUTONET inspects your machine's network interfaces and routing information to select a suitable IP address for local development. **Some of its capabilities include:** * **Automatic IP selection** — Finds a suitable local network address. * **Network change detection** — Monitors changes between Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and other interfaces. * **Docker and VPN awareness** — Avoids selecting unsuitable virtual network addresses by default. * **Developer integration** — Provides environment variables for development applications. * **Local hostname discovery** — Supports `.local` hostname advertisement using mDNS. * **QR code generation** — Makes it easier to open development applications on mobile devices. * **Network diagnostics** — Helps identify potential connectivity problems. ### Built with Rust AUTONET uses a modular Rust architecture with separate components for network discovery, address selection, and CLI operations. It uses native operating-system networking APIs to inspect interfaces and routes. Linux support is implemented, while macOS and Windows implementations still need real-hardware validation. ### Still Evolving The project is open-source and under active development. I'm particularly interested in feedback and contributions around: * Testing across Linux, macOS, and Windows * Network switching and connectivity edge cases * Improving address selection and diagnostics * Documentation and developer experience If you're interested in Rust, networking, operating systems, or developer tools, feel free to explore the repository. **GitHub:** https://github.com/phravins/AUTONET I'd love to hear your thoughts on the approach. **How do you currently handle changing local IP addresses when testing applications across multiple devices?** Feedback, issues, and pull requests are always welcome!

In The Offset, by @emmaszewczak.bsky.social and Natasha Calder, at 18, children pick a parent to sacrifice for their own existence.
It’s a gripping, properly dystopian cli-fi about a world at 500 ppm. We’re now at 426 ppm. I'm counting on humanity changing course by the time my own daughter is 18.

I don’t know if there is officially a cozy solarpunk speculative cli-fi category, but Becky Chambers "A Psalm for the Wild-Built" would certainly be the best read to have on that shelf. #books #bookstodon #indiewebbookclub

“A Psalm for the Wild-Built” by Becky Chambers
For a while, Chambers’ book seemed to be on the front table of every indie bookstore in town, but I never picked it up. I am glad that it was chosen by Nadja Bester as the October 2026 IndieWeb Book Club pick. It’s one of those books that felt like a balm amidst all the craziness that is swirling about us these days. _A Psalm for the Wild-Built_ is a short read (only 151 pages), but it moves at such a steady, peaceful pace that time stretches out a bit and you feel like you’re floating in something intentional. The world-building is absolutely amazing. While the characters were fun to walk with (again, no big explosions or troubles), the history of Panga was fascinating. I don’t know if there is officially a cozy solarpunk speculative cli-fi category, but this would certainly be the best read to have on that shelf. The premise follows a tea monk looking for personal meaning as they leave the comfort of their life, looking for more. This tea monk lives on a world that was ravaged by some kind of economic collapse or war that was so devastating that the whole planet now lives in a peaceful harmonious way with the nature around them. Part of that historic fallout was that the servant robots became sentient and ran away to the wilderness to live peacefully there. So we have generations of humans living peacefully, in cities, while robots roam the woods far away. It had been so long since humans and robots interacted that folks treated the idea of robots almost as a myth. Until… Yep, the tea monk meets a robot who wants to learn about humans, and away we go. Not on a journey of sci-fi battles and lasers, but one of a slow pilgrimage through the wilderness, bouncing questions around about what it means to be human and what humans really want. The whole journey unfurls in the same slow manner tea leaves do when steeping (this book made me very thirsty, and I drank a lot of tea). The ideas and questions are big for such a slim book. I loved the question about why, after 4 billion years of human growth going just right so that they can be alive, safe, and comfortable … why are they sad? Why do they have longings? Why are they not satisfied? Other animals (as the robot sees all humans) don’t have these issues. A _Psalm for the Wild-Built_ won the Hugo Award for Best Novella (2022), and was a Nebula Award Nominee for Best Novella (2021). So it’s certainly known, and I am glad I read it. I know there is a second book in the series, and I’m waiting for the right time to pick it up. The book did leave me wanting for a map of Panga (they travel so many places on the planet), a family tree of the Gods (all the symbols and relations sounded cool), and more tea! This is a read for folks who like heartwarming characters that move at their own pace and think big thoughts. Panga was an enjoyable world to visit. I did manage to brew more tea. ### Share this: * Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon * Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky * * Share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads * Share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit * * ### Like this: Like Loading… ### _Related_

A tip for fm-cli, my terminal client for Fastmail: it keeps your mail and message bodies in a local SQLite cache, so you can read and write drafts with no connection at all. Back online, fm-cli sync pushes the queued changes up. Nice on a train or bad hotel Wi-Fi.
