Now at 250,000 plus I understand. The desire for socialist policies is strong in the UK.
Some political big guns rumoured to be ready to jump in. I wonder.

They must avoid #authoritarianism and keep work against the #ClimateCatastrope front and center.

Great to hear about a new UK National Forest near Bristol.
I looked up how the first is doing after 30 years. 25% cover.
Progress is woefully slow and simply not fast enough to stop the #ClimateCatastrope. :-(

This #ClimateCatastrope warning was in 2023. :-(

Winter is coming?

We need to simply #StopBurningStuff and #LeaveItInTheGround, not attempt to see what else might work.

We have not previously seen a slope down, in temperature, that would get the year's final running average number below +1.57°C, have we?

"... we will likely lose our country, if we keep doing what we are doing at the moment. ...".

Sobering. The truth hurts.

Step 1: Tell everyone who will listen.

We found many times more public money than needed to transition the planet to sustainable energy for a pandemic. The fear to action ratio was high. Oddly a clear route to success was not obvious. It is for the #ClimateCatastrope, #StopBurningStuff and #LeaveItInTheGround.

I do enjoy a good tub thumping speech and Ali Gore's at Davos is a banger. Listen at 1.5x.

A long thread, that may not yet have ended, critiquing the IMF interpretation of 'externalities' (e.g. dead people from fossil fuel pollution).
I don't agree with it all but it deserves an IMF Economist response, which it hasn't yet had, so I present it to you.

#EnviromentalCrisis
1⃣ Since 2013, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has published biennially global estimates of what they call "explicit" and "implicit" #FossilFuelSubsidies.

Those estimates are widely cited, but also widely misinterpreted & misrepresented. And some things they include shouldn't be.

A long 🧵.
Fossil Fuel Subsidies
Subsidies are intended to protect consumers by keeping prices low, but they come at a high cost. Subsidies have sizable fiscal costs (leading to higher taxes/borrowing or lower spending), promote inef...

Sadly it looks to me like the US Gov website stopped updating with Trumps arrival.
You can hide the truth from people for only so long. ;-(

We are in a #ClimateCatastrope and must #LeaveItInTheGround!

Japan is a very rich nation. If it decides to buy up rice from poor nations, dependent upon it, with its higher buying capacity, then it's gets ugly real quick.

Emergency reserves, high prices, rationing. How did Japan's rice crisis get this far?
Rice is essential to Japanese culture, tradition and politics. People take pride in the oval-shaped sticky Japonica grain which is still a staple even though total consumption has fallen over the deca...

I'd hoped to see no day at +1 5°C of global warming. To leap, already in 2025, to 108 days above this speaks of a headlong dive towards a #ClimateCatastrope.

We must #StopBurningStuff and #LeaveItInTheGround or this will just get worse, costing more 'blood and treasure'. ;-(

There is some good news. The UK may briefly be reliant on fully sustainable fuel for its electricity generation this autumn. Each year that period will lengthen. But, will it happen quickly enough to avert #ClimateCatastrope‽

La Niña has ended, and the tropical Pacific is now in a neutral state—neither La Niña nor El Niño. Without those patterns influencing the atmosphere, it’s harder to anticipate seasonal shifts in rain or temperatures. Neutral likely lasts through fall. www.climate.gov/news-feature...

What with the steeper curve up of CH4 and the reducing aerosol cooling the conversation really needs to switch to can/will we can avoid tipping points, because then, crucially, technically the CO2 rise hardly matters.
