A +1.7 W/m² increase of #ASE (absorbed solar energy) is HUGE… if it were a #ClimateForcing, it would be equivalent to a CO2 increase of +138 ppm.

“Albedo v GHGs This chart measures the annual increase in absorbed solar energy from planetary albedo loss (orange) against the annual growth in radiative forcing due to new greenhouse gas emissions (dark blue) from 2003 to 2025. Decarbonisation acts mainly on greenhouse forcing, but most of the growth in absorbed solar energy is from albedo loss. NASA’s CERES measurement of albedo loss this century reveals that Earth system darkening in response to past warming is now adding heat about five times faster than new greenhouse gases are adding forcing. The linear trend line (light blue) shows the accelerating decline in reflectivity, mainly due to feedbacks from the accumulated warming from earlier emissions, notably loss of clouds and ice. The Pareto Principle directs attention to factors responsible for the largest share of an outcome. Applied to current climate forcing, this means policy should focus first on the fastest-growing contribution to the planetary energy imbalance. Since albedo loss is now adding far more heat than new greenhouse forcing, continued concentration on the marginal effect of decarbonisation misallocates climate effort.”
