I know it can become annoying to see it time and again, but I think the reason so many of us are banging the "please engage with us like people" pans so hard is because as the site grows, the closeknit feel of the community is diluted, and we are so afraid of LOSING it entirely.

I recently started trying my hand again at like voip rp and I can't put my finger on what makes this so different for me than all the times I've tried before, with and without closeknit friend groups, but it's been so fulfilling and engaging.

they prob didn’t want the scions too close so that players wouldn’t feel like they were walking into a closeknit group in arr but then you get to shb and they have willingly not spoken to one another in years. so it wasn’t a mechanical choice in arr that’s just how they treat each other and still do

The studio wars Animation Twitter/YouTube make up in their heads is so ridiculous. Animation is a closeknit community where they support each other.
It's also not like the old days where many animators commonly only worked at one studio. Although even back then, Chuck Jones worked briefly at Disney

hah, i have sooo many thoughts on fandom spaces. actually. how having a small, closeknit group of compatible freaks is so important! it's safety and freedom. but having a broader fandom also has perks, and you get to see lots of new and interesting stuff your group would never have considered

@bonesrambles.bsky.social made a really good point about this at some point but. The “size community” does not exist. It’s a bunch of bubbles of closeknit communities that touch like a Venn diagram with very different ideas of what is appealing about this. Hell, that’s even true on a personal level

Would love a two week holiday to rent a cabin that can hold many boys where we hang out, bake, get baked, play games, watch crappy holiday movies, go for short hikes, have campfires and s'mores with hot chocolate, and be a closeknit family, but I'm not sure I have anyone who'd want to (all fantasy)

I agree, but he should have worded it to be clearer. My mother was the 15th child in a closeknit loving family so his comment hit me the wrong way.

Sadly, suddenly, gone. Pat Brownsey was one of the loveliest people I ever worked with (back in the day), in the already closeknit Botany family at Te Papa. Such a good man.
We had the terribly sad news that our friend & colleague Pat Brownsey died last Friday after a short and sudden illness. Noted botanist, causally a stamp expert on the side, true gentleman — a kind, considerate and caring human. He is dearly missed by all at Te Papa.
