A while ago I had to drive across the country, and used it to visit my Pony/bond sister Cloudbow. Jo was kind enough to do a draw over using our current outfits.

Isn't the #Brockenspectre phenomenon the most mindblowing visual experience? It is basically a fully circular cloudbow & it happens often at the summit of #Haleakalā Volcano. 🌤️🌈

There's a vertical wisp of cloud off the edge of the larger cloud that the sun has turned into a cloud rainbow. The cloudbow also extends vertically along the entire leftmost edge of the larger cloud

Yesterday morning’s dark and stormy cloudbow, when a rainbow can’t quite find its path through the sky and jumps from cloud to cloud. 😉

LAX to Boston, on American's new A321XLR. Choppy almost the whole way, but sinking into the clouds gave me something I'd never seen before: a pale rainbow wrapped around the engine. It's a cloudbow, a rainbow made by tiny cloud droplets instead of rain, and it only shows up with the sun behind you.

What kind of rainbow is this? In this case, no rain was involved -- what is pictured is actually a red cloudbow. The unusual sky arc was spotted last month during sunset in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, USA. When the photographer realized that what he was seeing was extraordinary, he captured it with the only camera available -- a cell phone. Clouds are made of water droplets, and in a cloudbow a cloud-droplet group reflects back light from the bright Sun (or Moon) on the opposite side of the sky. Similar phenomena include fogbows and airplane glories. Here, the red color was caused by atmospheric air preferentially scattering away blue light -- which simultaneously makes most of the sky appear blue. A careful inspection reveals a supernumery bow just inside the outermost arc, a bow caused by quantum diffraction. Open Science: Browse 1,700+ codes in the Astrophysics Source Code Library

Good Lord what IS the sky doing?
Photograph taken out of a window pointing straight up at the sky. The white wall and gable of the building are at the bottom of the picture. Beyond them, a sky covered in thin milky clouds, with a hazy white sun shining through them, and circling the sun, an actual rainbow. Cloudbow? It is beautiful and strange.

Foggy morning with a cloudbow at the end
The sun is up on a foggy sky over a rippling lake. The shore is a dark treed silhouette. There is a line of different dark rocks stretching out into the lake from shore Brown sand meets the lake and a line of rocks stretches out into single file to the horizon. The lake is very calm. It is a misty morning A pale blue sky over the beach and sand but a white cloud arcs over it like a rainbow does

Went for a walk on Winter Hill today and was treated to a cloudbow.

A story in my latest book covers the Winter Hill Mass Trespass of 1896. This view would have been illicit back then due to Colonel Richard Ainsworth barring access to the moor. 1/6
