Konductor is deployed to the T640 PowerEdge today!
A nix flake developer environment that:
1. works on macos / linux (native WSL image soon)
2. also produces a qcow2 image w/ cloudinit
3. includes a devshell to build Konductor in a Konductor VM
And it's deployed on Kubevirt + Rook CEPH 🐶

I just setup terraform to provision a Hetzner VPS and then automatically setup Tailscale SSH and a firewall using cloudinit. It was much easier than expected and just worked, first try. Love it!

Inspired me to finish my article on how to set up Kamal deployment for my Rails template. Might not be exactly what you're looking for but could help. And I just merged Terraform configuration that uses `cloudinit` and targets DO, which could help with the hardening. tristandunn.com/articles/dep...

If it’s simple enough, it can be a short cloudinit “user data” script to set up the env and install required packages.
Then deploying can be an “ssh host ‘sudo docker pull foo/bar:latest && sudo docker restart’” script or similar with Podman or whatever.
It’s unreasonably effective!

Note que l'image NoCloud est aussi compatible CloudInit :) (NoCloud prend juste les metadatas venant de l'hyperviseur).

Lu hier en parcourant les examples capi Kubevirt a priori l'image openstack de Talos utilise Cloudinit au lieu de NoCloud si ça t'intéresse

Had a VM of Almalinux up for approximately 1.5 minutes, brand new install, logged in for the first time after cloudinit did a setup. Already 52 failed ssh logins for root!!! 90 seconds uptime.

That's my current plan. My previous attempts were successful* but relied on manually updating etc/hosts, and at the time for those I didn't have as much grasp on PXE, chainbooting, or cloudinit, so I just didn't get very far with them.

Désolé d'avoir été si long à répondre, j'ai fait quelques commentaires sur le gist. Petite question, pourquoi ne pas prendre les images VM fournies par le projet ? En plus depuis 14.1 j'ai rajouté un support cloudinit basic natif (ok donc pas en 13.5 🙈), sinon sympa le script !

I'm exactly in the same situation. Ansible was an experiment to see if I can do things more declaratively so I don't have to "remember" how stuff works 1y from now, but it's way more effort than the couple of bash + cloudinit (to setup new VPS real quick 😉) scripts.

Attention y a cloudinit le machin en python, et le tout nouveau nuageinit intégré à FreeBSD, ça existe depuis la 14.1 donc c'est quand même récent, le support est minimaliste aka juste ce dont j'ai eu besoin :D, je suis ouvert à rajouter des choses à la demande. (et il faudrait que je documente).

Had a usb passthru fail with a VM running Debian 12. Took too long for me to figure out that the cloudinit Linux kernel does not even have usb support. Switching to the main kernel was another story. #frigate #homeassistant
