all i’m saying is that everyone at bell labs would have been really into microservices if they had access to kubernetes
fortunately we were able to argue about the unix philosophy for 50 years so on balance it’s probably fine

can anyone make a compelling argument to me for using kubernetes in a homelab setup or is it just for fun?

I've always said that Kubernetes is just a poor man's BEAM

I think you can use Kubernetes mainly if you want a job with Kubernetes or you have a specific middle ground where that would be more pleasant than NixOS for some reason...

Kubernetes can already certify clusters for AI. It still can’t vouch for the workloads.
Kubernetes just formed a workload conformance group. Here’s why it matters for AI teams.

look man, I don’t expect everyone to pay attention to Kubernetes components

i don't really want to delegate my entire server setup to purely agents which seems to be a common response

sorry i like managing my servers myself but i don't like using nix and kubernetes to do so (though since i have most of my services in podman it *would* be easy to use kubernetes instead)
can anyone make a compelling argument to me for using kubernetes in a homelab setup or is it just for fun?

Basically like

It’s not helpful to think of kubernetes in terms of orchestrating across hosts. That involves a bunch of other layers that you may not have or need. It’s about owning the lifecycle for apps from one location.

It’s not about that. It’s about automating orchestration even across one machine. If you’re writing docker composes you are essentially doing the same level of work you’d need to manage Kubernetes, and a lot comes prepackaged for you.
