A bright red mite with pointy mouthparts that are buried in the underside of a small many-legged arthropod covered with little bristles (more of which are scattered around it). Another angle that better shows the snout mite's elbowed pedipalps on either side of the snout, like a weevil's antennae. One can also see a thick clump of bristles. Here is what a bristle millipede looks like alive and the right way up, more like a carpet beetle larva or a caterpillar than a typical millipede. Its segments are fringed with rows of bristle-like hairs, and it has two bundles of longer hairs coming out of the end of its butt, a little like the waxy tail of a planthopper.

So I can confirm now this is a defensive behavior. When Nu Udra or ignited Ajarakan show up, the Gelidrome all bail out of the flammable oil before they can get burned.

And I assume they stack up to appear bigger and more threatening, like when they open their mouth at you.

I'm starting to do that thing where the little bits of fiction are picking up whole little worlds that they live in, oh no... Anyways, meet Dam (pronounced Dahm) and Sal I guess.

He chuckles under his breath and grins and they almost let it take them in. Almost. "D would never kick us out of the bar, we practically pay the rent here and have for forever. We might as well have raised the little bastard." The bartender glares at them both as he floats by and their companion just gives her a cheeky little wave. "I'm not saying tempt one to come home with us to test their little mortal souls with a night of depravity, I'm saying see what happens when you and that perfect ass sashay by them." They sigh in exasperation because they both know it's essentially the same thing. He's always been like this, pushing the boundaries of their shared duty because it's fun for him. "One of them has a destiny," they hiss even lower, under the clatter of glasses and sports on TVs. "So?" He does that thing where he makes them feel things they've experienced before, memories drifting over their body like touch. And people think he's the good one? "Maybe we're his destiny. "Nothing I love more than being the whipping boy, you know that. Now go, we were assigned to do this anyway and I couldn't tell them apart. They all look the same now." They give him a wholly unimpressed look before walking across the bar with the solid thunk of expensive shoes on cheap wood. They know every eye is on them because every eye is always on them. Some people will convince themselves it's the perfect tailored dark suit and rolled shirt sleeves they're actually looking at, or the effortless hair, or the light silver jewelry, or the makeup so well done that it might as not be there except for how it is. But it's them. It's what they are. They stride past the now silent table with only the barest glance. That one there, the one trying and not trying to meet their eye. That one has it. Then they're past and pushing open the door to the men's room, leaning against the far wall. They're made to wait longer than usual but not by much when the young man opens the door tentatively and slips inside. The door closes behind him and they know no one but their other half can follow.
