The Nixon Administration in 1970 pit Americans against each other, by declaring that the "Silent Majority" supported the efforts of the President. Rhetoric that made abuses of power like the Kent State Massacre possible. The FBI"S operation COINTELLPRO was instrumental to that effort.

Pursuant to abuses he suffered from the FBI from operation COINTELLPRO. J. Edgar and company tried to coerce Dr. King into committing suicide. The intelligence community was obsessed with finding foreign influences in the Civil Rights Movement. Finding none, they resorted to coercion and lies.

COINTELLPRO, the operation designed to undermine the credibility of the Civil Rights Movement as a communist conspiracy. That never existed. The FBI infiltrated the Civil Rights Movement and Vietnam War Protesters based on that lie. Electing a Black Man POTUS was the last straw for these clowns.

I would want my kids to know about Slavery, Native American Genocide,

What would the public have done when faced with the abuses perpetrated by the government in the form of the FBI's Operation COINTELLPRO attempting to call the Civil Rights Movement a communist conspiracy. Attempts to assassinate Castro. What if these had been disclosed when JFK was assassinated?

In the 50s and 60s there was operation COINTELLPRO conducted by the FBI. When you hear current conservative extremists talk about communist/socialist conspiracies remember that the FBI infiltrated events and groups they deemed un-American to discredit them. I'd say these tactics haven't changed.

Think in terms of FBI operation COINTELLPRO. Especially, during the 50s and 60s to look for communist conspiracies that did not exist in either the Civil Rights Movement or Protesters of the Vietnam War. They infiltrated these movements deliberately to undermine their credibility before the public.
