#colouration
Is it an actual blue pigment...or a physics thing where they scatter the light and appear to be blue (structural colouration)?

They're known to eat a lot of fish & crustaceans, so it seems likely that the carotenoids are dietary.

There's not a lot of research on the pigmentation chemistry in these species, but plenty in the shared taxonomic family, Alcedinidae.

for the colour one I tried to reference one ref for shape/shading and a different one for actual colouration and i don’t think i’m big brained enough for a move like that yet bc i was fucking struggling lol

Though that is a false promise. Unlike purification the flower does not actually rid someone of their manifestations, instead drawing them back into a person like an anima drain. Yes, this will get rid of the purple colouration associated with falling.

She’s back! A lovely #aurora display after sunset tonight with pink visible by eye and the camera revealing beams and much more intense colouration. Has died back again just now but should be a good show throughout the night. #northernLights #astrophotography #photography #stormHour #photoHour

One of my favourite locations, St Ouens Bay, Jersey. The storm had blown through and an evening autumn sun breaks cover to cast a warming glow. Sunlight catching long beach grass and a backdrop of La Rocco Tower and Corbiere.

This is something truly special. I love the colour of the sky and the clouds. - The framing also makes the subject appear potentially massive, but it works just as well as typical size or macro.

Beautiful 'oil slick' colouration for adding texture to a purely black figure, in shadow.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper & small juvenile ♀️ Ruff can look very similar in the field. Same colouration, same yellow legs, same scaly back, same short bill. Ruff always has a bold white "V" or "U" on the rump, while Buff-breasted (right) has an all-dark rump. #BirdingHungary #shorebirds #waders

Started this a while ago and I really like the idea, I only struggle with the execution~ x3
Might draw the other side first, to then adjust the lineart on this side and redo the whole colouration as I go~

These are three of the enormous variety of fungi that are currenlty fruiting in and around Hay-on-Wye (where I live).

I was lucky enough to get to paint all three from life, while selling prints and cards in Hay castle, and chatting to visitors to the Fungitown festival last weekend #dreamjob

Yeah but they weren't little lizard people originally, they were similar to gnomes and were named after their blue colouration, like cobalt, because they were known to mine the stuff and it turned them blue.

📣 New study led by EF members Ewan Auld, Aimee Silla & Phillip Byrne on the threatened 🐸 Green and Golden Bell Frog, showing that UV ☀️ exposure during early development can have lasing effects on colouration.

Ultraviolet radiation exposure during larval development is associated with changes in colouration of Green and Golden Bell Frogs (Ranoidea aurea)
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can be harmful to amphibians by causing DNA damage, impairing immune systems and restricting growth. In response to elevated UV, amphibians have been observed to invest in s...

The last 4 days I spent 8 hours at Lower Moors #Scilly trying to photo the key features of Wilson's Snipe without it once spreading its tail or wings! So relieved that someone else managed it. A very striking monochromatic bird that convinced straight away. ID notes in alt #ukbirding #birds

jane bird has started to drop some feathers as of today. her moulting schedule is so strange, so far behind lydia.. and then she does a double moult, not a full secondary but still she will change into winter colouration just for the duration of the season and go back to being light in spring

Been feeling nostalgic about how I started in the fandom all those years ago. Made me miss how I started out with my Fursona/Gargosona. It was probably one of the better colors I interacted with but as time went on so did my tastes and personality. I can’t decide how I want to look nowadays. XD;

Honestly the song I was listening to at the time SERIOUSLY influenced this guy, right down to his name. He’s such an upbeat fella. What if there was a guy so happy with being a slime that his happy colouration became his base/default state
