#communitarian
an immediate reaction i always have as someone who has lived in a communitarian setting is: who’s going to clean all this?

The key distinction here is that most normies reject the idea that immigrants are a communitarian or civilizational threat. Trump and Miller are losing the country (per @jamellebouie.net) because that's far outside the mainstream. We can seize this moment to advance our own communitarian argument:
Miller is so extreme he is losing part of the American right: Joe Rogan "calls it “horrific” to arrest “normal, regular people that have been here for 20 years” in “front of their kids.”"

This articulation of what belonging and community means in America captures something fundamental:

Very Minneapolis on-brand to come through a wildly inspiring communitarian moment to a video of Jacob Frey running alone

It’s not my political ball game but if I was trying to undertake a political project that required substantial expressions of communitarian solidarity, I would resist the urge to shit on expressions of communitarian solidarity

i think it's cool and not weird at all that for all of its communitarian messaging every star trek character's ultimate dream is seemingly to live in a beautiful and enormous cottage on an otherwise abandoned planet

Hey postliberal religious conservatives: This woman jailed and getting deported after living in a Missouri town for 20 years converted to Catholicism, delivers a powerful communitarian message, and speaks with deep gratitude toward the Trump voters backing her cause.

Nothing bad ever comes from groups that tack "National" in front of a communitarian ideology.

a focus on content moderation and censorship is a losing battle, and we have ten years of evidence to suggest it is a lost cause. it stimulates our own authoritarian instincts while leaving the problem untouched, and splits the pro-democracy coalition into libertarian and communitarian factions

Ed Sheeran claiming to be 'culturally Irish' gives the vibe that he thought being Irish was pints o' Guinness and shamrocks rather than implacable multi-generational communitarian struggle against imperialism.

Given that the communitarian alternative seems to be either nasty gossip or lynch mob with basically no room in between, I’ll take prison

Since we're doing natalism discourse, my recommendation for ensuring increased births is twofold: communitarian restructuring of the family and remuneration of domestic labour at substantial sums.

I've tried to suggest the critical distinction is voters support orderly process but don't see immigrants as a negative in the communitarian or civilizational terms that postlibs, MAGA, et al do. Pundits overread Trump win as backlash to world created by 1965 act:

do you want a re-enchanted communitarian order? Or do you just want to wipe the smile off the smug face of that woke 30-something woman in your department who got promoted ahead of you and reminds you uncomfortably of your ex-wife? Most post-liberals deep down have a clear preference for the latter

My own politics are communitarian, nationalist, decentralist and economically radical. It’s a shame that Blue Labour has become a right-wing parody of such ideas.
Correct. Rutherford is a lot more infuential (and less mad) than Glasman. He wrote Starmer's first speech after he was announced as leader.

His philosophy will familiar if you've ever ploughed through a John Gray book/article.
It’ll get less traction than Glasman saying something mad (again) but this @siennarodgers.bsky.social piece on Jonathan Rutherford is a better guide to where& how Blue Labour is influencing govt www.politicshome.com/news/article...

Yes, the Nordic model is communitarian, not libertarian.

Correct. It's Graeber's bullshit job thesis restated in right-communitarian/postliberal vibes, except the bullshit jobs are all in the public sector instead of the private sector, as Graeber argued.
is "unproductive" jobs again this kindergarden-level "materialism" where if you don't produce a literal physical object then you're not producing anything

When I have to do so, I usually say "Canada is more communitarian than the United States because the Canadian term for 'rugged individualist' is 'corpsicle'."

far end of the horseshoe, anarchist without any of the communitarian principles. it’s just rich nihilism.

"Small town tolerance" is 90% propaganda. Rhetorically everyone values 'minding their own business' and in practice this is true about 1/10 the time.

Urban areas seem to be somewhat reversed - rhetorically communitarian (for better & worse), practically more individualistic

We have a big piece coming next week that really attempts to dig deep into this basic disconnect between the MAGA civilizational/communitarian-threat view of immigration and the mainstream view that even people like Joe Rogan are now gravitating towards. Stay tuned!

Every communitarian notion rejects it, even the ‘progressive’ ones. An enormous swath of Marxism rejects it. And it is anathema to conservatism. It’s an extremely unpopular view that we should nonetheless fight for

Liberalism is individualist where socialism is communitarian, and universalist where conservatism is particularist (and often communitarian as well).
This conversation was an absolute blast. Listen in for a discussion of our community of course, but also of liberalism in general, a fighting liberalism today, and a controversial remark made squarely in the middle that I won't spoil. Thanks for having me @sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com

Also, I don't know how you square this stuff with either being a communitarian/paternalist Conservative *or* being a free marketeer, because even with the latter the restaurant will ask so they don't get sued.
