.. but also there's enough info to make you understand the context of what's happening and why? This is also based around David Copperfield, so I understand the constraints. I haven't read that since high school--but this made me want to re-read The Poisonwood Bible more.

Ugh. If they want to remake some dark British story for kids, they could do a Dickens tale but that takes place in 2020s United States. David Copperfield but a foster kid caught in the system. Oh wait, just option Barbara Kingsolver's novel.
Finally, we're getting the darker and grittier version of Mary Poppins. I'd like to see you claim Hollywood is out of ideas now!

Since 2003, Deeley has been a patron of London's Great Ormond Street Hospital. She is also an active supporter of UNICEF. In 2007, she took part in a UNICEF benefit show in Los Angeles during which magician David Copperfield sawed her in half using his antique Buzz Saw illusion.

I thought Dickens was overrated until I read David Copperfield for the first time.

Also enjoying that Leavis mentions/compares David Copperfield, which came out a couple years after Jane Eyre.

(Now I'm even gladder to have read David Copperfield, @christina500.bsky.social!)

I hadn’t read David Copperfield, and I felt like I couldn’t read her book until I read the Dickens. I read the Dickens, and then never got around to her book, but I most certainly will now.

Demon Copperfield is a piece of art and true to Appalachia. The other is trash.
A few years ago, America got two books about life in Appalachia: one was a work of political fiction written by a ghost writer picked by Peter Thiel to launch the political campaign of his sycophantic understudy, JD Vance. The other is the recipient of this year's Times (London) Book
At home with Barbara Kingsolver: ‘My mother was hurt by my success’
The American novelist talks about her difficult childhood, life in Appalachia after the opioid crisis and her hit novel Demon Copperhead — and winning The Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence

I live in a small subdivision between Bear Creek & Copperfield. My house sits 9’ higher than the top of the Addicks Dam. No houses in my little pocket neighborhood got water inside, but neighborhoods east, south, west, & north flooded. Not sure there are ANY safe ‘hoods in Houston anymore.

Which baffled me at the time (did you never read The Great Gatsby, Jane Eyre, Catcher in the Rye, A Separate Peace, David Copperfield, Huckleberry Finn, To Kill A Mockingbird, Flowers For Algernon, Frankenstein, etc. in school?)

That’s assuming most people already knew about all of those , my guess is a lot of people had not heard of them..unless you’ve followed the story
So there’s that.
I certainly didn’t know about Copperfield nor did I know who some of these people were.

And that's why I do it too. Like David Copperfield or Johnny Rocco, I want more. So I write 'em. And my Clonan, Kharrn, has appeared in over 20 anthologies now, so it's worked out pretty well.

LibriVox is an incredible project that few people know exist. People reading the classics to you is great. One of my favorites from them was David Copperfield read by Tadhg, but it's worth it to dig around because there's so much good stuff by people who want to share.
