#cornershops
The answer must be some variety of:
Patronize local cornershops and businesses. Support and promote artists and creatives. Explore mutual aide. Join local interest groups. Practice, and insist on, compassion for those living outside of your current circles of experience.

Who remembers cornershops with customer-facing tills? What were that all about?

In UK growing up in 60s/70s we didn’t have burgers we had rissoles made from lefover roast beef n there was just a sausage sarnie (white medium sliced bread). A lot of food was delivered n there were no supermarkets until early/mid seventies. U just used local/cornershops n main road/town shops. 🐰😎

for the US absolutely. they built their entire country around the car and now everything is car based so now it's shit to walk, cycle, or public transport anywhere.

like their suburbs are just houses and houses and houses. no cornershops in walkable distance or w/e.

drive. everywhere.

by design.

Yup. My wife did field sales for Cadburys and the Somali guys running cornershops would absolutely school salespeople on margins, bulk discounts etc.

It was about pesky _European_ immigrants. We had come and disturbed the order in England. On the streets we spoke in foreign languages & opened cornershops where strange food, like sauerkraut, was sold.

And we expected to be respected and treated as ordinary humans.

Didn't go down well in England.

Maybe 15 years ago it was cheaper for London cornershops to travel elsewhere in a world, fill a van full of sodas/etc., then drive that back to London rather than sell the English stuff. This enabled my ex and me to play a game we called Cornershop Roulette

i don't know! its 'the big tesco' around here, as opposed to the ones where cornershops used to be.

Yeah I think the fair comparison is like me weighing in on the economics of takeaways or cornershops which I have interacted with more than someone who grew up in the countryside but would still be an insane thing for me to condesend to people from the countryside about

It took visiting four Rewe, two cornershops & one Netto but I wasn’t defeated in getting a copy of Fussball Woche with this great champions front cover! 🔥🫡
How lovely is this front cover! Local football covered expertly. Wonderful. 🏆🏆🏆

Jet fuel is hard to find in supermarkets atm but easily available in cash and carries and cornershops that don't rely on Just In Time logistics

always have without ever knowingly coming across a trans person.

I can understand why some people may have felt a reaction to asian cornershops 'suddenly' appearing, or gay people kissing on TV, or a hospital appearing to have a lot of new Black staff. A lot of people react very negatively to a

Little clip from a VR documentary film I finished late last year with @britishlibrary.bsky.social with support from their @BL_Learning team. It’s about #cornershops and how they’re integral to communities across the UK. It will be installed for a few days next week at the White Rose centre in Leeds.

Ah an american post!
I think this is unintentionally a commentary on how difficult walking anywhere in the USA is. And simutaneously how cornershops are almost extinct in that country.
You'd expect it to be easy, but being car dependent, it isnt.

A brilliant, unintentional, exposé!

They are in all the cornershops now seeing them everywhere

When did cornershops become cheaper than supermarkets? Supermarkets are really losing out the whole point of them was they could out price all the small shops now they are way more expensive.

I have found a YouTube channel where a guy wanders around the worst council estates in not-for-tourists places like Leeds and Hull looking for the dodgiest cornershops and pubs he can find. This is where I want to be.

I've been occupying myself in my walk time with taking photos of all the old cornershops I walk past, dead or alive. There's more than I though so it might well end me. The Great Wall is the only old cornershop in Norwich you can see from space.

I’ve been into three cornershops today. All they sold were triangles.
