#Metacampanella is a new genus, minted in 2024. It's possible members of this #genus are under-documented in South America, with 25 #observations on #iNaturalist so far. This one could be M. dendrophora (Argentina) or M. costaricensis (Costa Rica), though it's most likely an #undescribed #species

Oh, I do: I have a costaricensis on my porch right now. These characters don’t want dragonfruit: they want some insanely rare or even nonexistent plant, and they figure buying seeds is how to get them cheap. (Without fail, people at shows asking “You got seeds?” used both sides of the toilet paper.)

Autumn in the subtropics is red dragon fruit time. Hailing from Central America Hylocereus costaricensis grows as a climbing cactus. It flowers at night with its blooms dying by midday. Its fruits are a visual delight with a delightful perfumed taste and are highly nutritious. #plantscience #botany

This is my breakfast today: fresh dragon fruit (Selenicereus costaricensis) from the garden. I have had this plant for 16 years, but it was not until 2022 that I got any fruit, one tiny fruit. This year, it gave me seven bigger fruits and counting.

I have learned that the orange trees are blooming coral trees (Erythrina sp - part of the Fabaceae family), thanks to @hormiga.bsky.social for reaching out!

These are spectacular flowers. I can imagine a whole tree might stop you in your tracks.
