Back to Cricklade, #Wiltshire, for #StNicholasDay, and this absolutely stunning #stainedglass by Martin Travers, 1927 - what a window! St Nicholas holds three gold balls, representing the three purses - dowries - he gave to three girls in Myra to save them from prostitution.

Could it look more wintry? The impressive tower of Kempsford, #Gloucestershire, rather dwarfs the rest of the church, C14th with C15th additions, and, though it doesn't really resemble it, puts me in mind of nearby Cricklade in ambition - and interior vaulting #SteepleSaturday

Today's #AdventAngels is from Cricklade, #Wiltshire, & is a beautiful piece of Aesthetic design by G E Cook, 1873: I adore this window. It features in my #Victorian #stainedglass talk on 10 Feb 2025, 7pm. Think you don't like Victorian glass? Think again! www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/victorian-...

The Thames reaches past Cricklade in Wiltshire. Have all the many pubs along its banks been properly archaeologically assessed?

Pub 3202, Red Lion, Cricklade. I've strayed into Wilts and as a consequence the carpet has gone mad. 8/10. Guinness Emma Willis photographs her Mum's fridge. The low abv stout redeems Hop Kettle. A really nice pub. Swindon or Cheltenham for my final tick, I can't decide!
