We joined an important conversation at KUNO on CRSV and the role of humanitarian actors last week. The widening scope and increasing complexity of warfare also changes the dimensions of CRSV. It is difficult, but essential, to maintain survivor-centred care in constrained crisis settings.

Many now see sexual violence as a "weapon of war". But this obscures that rape isn't only committed by the enemy. Rates of intra-group sexual violence also rise. And liberators do this – even against those they're supposed to protect. An example from #WWII #CRSV ⬇️

🇺🇦 is strengthening legal protection for victims of russia's war amidst fighting an existential war. Important legal measures are taken on issues previously overlooked or even tabooed. This includes LGBTQ, domestic violence victims, and now CRSV survivors (& most approved for compensation are men).
Jewish Women International (JWI) and the Dinah Project do important work on Conflict Related Sexual Assault (CRSV). No other CRSV in history was as planned and simultaneous as the attacks on women and girls in Israel on 10/7/2023. See "I Believe Israeli Women" event videos at JWI.org or on YouTube.
This Women’s History Month, we refuse to stand idly by as the women who were raped and violated by Hamas terrorists on and since October 7th, 2023, are silenced by the world. The global community has failed these women, but we will do everything we can to give them back their voices.
