It's actually incredible how often public processes in Seattle lead to "leave the street configuration exactly as it is today, but make it curbless" as an outcome. It's like how animal evolution leads to things like look like crabs.

Here in Philadelphia the city set a 'Vision Zero' goal of installing 3 curbless streets.
They've declared "Mission Accomplished" but none of them show an understanding of what makes a good curbless street:

“A classic European shared street or ‘woonerf’ is narrow and curbless with a clear zone suggested by paving materials and personal items like tables, chairs, and planters along the edges.”
Cities in Washington will have the legal authority to create shared streets, which feature much lower speed limits and put pedestrians first under Senate Bill 5595. Governor Bob Ferguson signed the bill into law Saturday. It will go into effect on July 27.

Washington Street in Pioneer Square has reopened, with fresh bollards. Not quite a curbless intersection on this end of Occidental Park.

The code goes so far that clever design can't fix it. The key provision in question requires 26 feet of unobstructed/curbless width - that needs to be made flexible.

This is the way. Curbless equals accessible.
Felixstowe...where a kerbless landscape scheme was installed in a busy high street and no-one made a fuss and look it works really well for everyone. I mean it's not the most 'beautiful' in terms of materials but it really WORKS.

How about some regulation banning curbless streets from having parking
There is (and has been for decades) something in architecture called universal design. The purpose is to make all private/public spaces and private/public appliances accessible for all, without making it look “special “. Simple things like curbless showers, front stove controls, wider doorways etc.

You are either designing a curbless, pedestrian-first street and allow/expect pedestrians to use the entire space, or you have clear distinctions between modes. Building a curbless street with construction signage telling pedestrians to stick to the periphery is such a failure.

A woonerf with mostly education-related adjacent land uses is sometimes called a schoolerf, which is kind of cute.
