Acorn Weevil (Curculio glandium)

Females uses the long rostrum (snout) to bore into the centre of an oak acorn to lay her egg. The larva feeds within the acorn and eventually bores its way out

Three lovely apples on a wooden table. Never mind the curculio scar on the one on the right; it’s perfectly edible despite a weevil sticking her lady junk in there to lay some eggs back in the spring. They’re totally absorbed by now and you’ll never know they were ever there. Except for the giant scar.

Curculio caryatrypes, the greater chestnut weevil, is a species of weevil in the family Curculionidae. Larinus minutus is a species of true weevil known as the lesser knapweed flower weevil. It is used as an agent of biological pest control against noxious knapweeds, especially diffuse knapweed (Centaurea diffusa) and spotted knapweed.

Curculio proboscideus (large chestnut weevil)

Around 97,000 species of weevil, including 3,000-3,500 species in North America.
Very long snouts, herbivore.
They seem to be most common in wet areas. Photo was taken in coastal Alabama.

This was a tragedy, especially after the 3 long days the SO put in harvesting all that fruit!

We spent a lot of time crying and mourning the loss.

It's body is in clear focus in this show showing the Elytra (the armored fore wings characteristic of beetles) the pronotum, and the head with the LONG proboscis sweeping forward and down from between the glossy black eyes towards the light gray painted wood it rests on. The beetle's antennae emerge about a third of the way down the snoot.

The beetle's eyes are black and round and rest just above it's long specialized snoot, from which it's antennae emerge about a quarter of the way down.
