Interesting to spot this colour ringed Curlew at Alturlie Point in September. Not sure if it’s one of the local Beauly Firth study birds or perhaps one from further afield. Any info would be appreciated 🙏

Since tentatively picking up willow charcoal for the first time in the summer, I have fallen ever deeper in love with the Curlew. The softness of the charcoal marks seems to really suit these magical birds. Fast forward me to next week when I’m Humber Estuary bound to fill my soul with their calls.

Trip to Ryall Court Pits to see the juvenile Stone Curlew; no pictures taken I’m afraid, I managed to see it eventually with a bit of help from another birdwatcher. Thanks @andywarr.bsky.social for the spot, exactly where he said it would be @worcswt.bsky.social

A Knot (presumed juv) dropped in at #uptonwarren Flashes this morning. A rare bird here these days - only the 3rd I've seen in 22 years of visiting the reserve. 2 Green Sands, 6 Curlew & 3 Stonechat were other highlights, and an Avocet was reported for a 2nd day at the Moors Pool. #WorcsBirds

The Eurasian Stone-curlew still at Ryall Court Pits, Upton-upon-Severn this morning.

Distant views but thanks to the power of a Nikon P1000 and some AI sharpening, the photographic results were better!

Also 11 Golden Plover over, Dunlin, Green Sandpiper & Pintail.

I think we, as a species, don't grief enough collectively over all the species we lost just in last 500 years, from Moas, to golden toads, and to think that I was born just as last slender-billed curlew went extinct. As a palaeontologitst I grief all the time how much poorer we made the world
