"Murphy fears an increased pressure to work faster, with less autonomy and more supervision. Whether an hour saved on emails becomes time to think, or leads to more assignments, depends on employers' decisions and workers' bargaining power. " yep! Exactly like my #cyborgWorkers slide I posted y'day
AI summit brings together Big Tech bosses and EU officials
As the US and China race ahead, the European Union seeks to boost its economy with AI. Can it compete while protecting workers, safety and the climate?

Oh, looks like I didn't in fact post.

I've actually taught the main text here every semester for years – predating my 2020 start at @hertieschool.bsky.social

But this was my one & only use of #genAI on my #cyborgWorkers slides. Someone pointed out mine were the only nonAI slides at the meeting.

Great #cyborgworkers talk mystified me how Microsoft is convincing managers to get us to do unwaged labour trying to find a use for copilot. IIRC in the 20C there were actually kickbacks from Microsoft to heads of IT that brought Microsoft in. Could that still be going on? #AIEthics #antitrust

A colleague stepped out of #cyborgWorkers for a Google talk to the EP. Google said Europe was falling behind because it wasn't using AI and this was because women are afraid of AI. This is truly evil – even the "falling behind" part is false! A reminder of our new data (short thread) #AIEthics

I guess it could also just be about typical #antitrust lock in; why pay yet more for other firms' tokens when you get copilot "free" with your office software... But still, some of the sectors addressed by #cyborgWorkers make enough money individuals have their own licenses to better products…

TECHNOLOGY: engines, tools, AI , IP etc

Now using AI a lot at the start and end, also localisation and subtitles. But consumers don't want games with #genai.

#cyborgworkers into q&a now. I ask about something I've heard about call centers using AI to intervene between customers and supporters for the psychological good of the supporters, toning down any vitriol so the supporters don't need to hear that. I don't know if this is just a rumour?
