You need to drag a cyclist for a mile under your car, killing them, to get a lifetime driving ban. That cannot be the min threshold for such penalties. Also driving whilst disqualified must be jailable with serious sentences if repeated. It might have saved Michael's life. 😢

I am sorry, but it is also the law that killed- how have they not banned this man for driving- for his many prior offences ?! WHY is driving dangerously tolerated to this extent?! These unsafe choices often endanger other drivers -- it's not just cyclists and pedestrians who are at risk. Things like a driver speeding past a cyclist around a blind corner and coming a few feet away from slamming into an oncoming vehicle. Fewer cars and safer streets are good for drivers too!
Infrastructure can do a lot to calm traffic & make our streets safer, by forcing slower speeds etc.
But increasingly I’m seeing drivers make *really* intensely unsafe choices - due to staring at their phones or aggression - that infra can’t really fix.

My 24 min round trip 🚲 ride to get groceries (1/2 Midtown Greenway w/ no car traffic) included…
School bus driver slammed on their brakes & nearly crashed into a city bus @ 36th/Nicollet. Light was already 🔴, not sure why they didn’t see it.
