These smug skeleton cyclists.

Blocking bike lanes is about forcing cyclists into car traffic but it's also about SIGHT LINES
This is why blocking the bike lane, even partially puts us in danger.

Incredible three day string for the Seattle Times opinion page, scolding pedestrians and cyclists, opposing housing and supporting school closures
Not shocked in the slightest that the Seattle Times ed board endorses SPS's new school closure plan. But like the superintendent, they can't actually make a case for *why* we have to close schools, just that we should. They also want to sell off the buildings (to charter schools?). Ugh.
Handled correctly, school closures in Seattle could be a win | Editorial
With savvy stewardship, the prospect of closing buildings in Seattle Public Schools could be a win for the district.

Nearly 30,000 people were killed or seriously injured on Britain’s roads last year.

That should shape where police focus, not the latest outrage.

It’s time to push the facts to the front. By me in The Spectator:

It’s time to stop demonising cyclists
There’s been plenty of outrage against cyclists recently. Last week, after Oxford Street in London was pedestrianised, a small number of people broke the rules by cycling down the traffic-free section...

I have no time for any action that pits cyclists against pedestrians.

This wannabe murderer lost to Katy Padilla Stout in Texas' 23rd Congressional District. Now he's got more time to plan how he's going to get away with murdering cyclists.
Republican candidate Brandon Herrera:

“I fucking hate cyclists. Jesus fucking Christ!

….I had fucking fantasies of running them all over and, you know, maybe one of these days I will.

…I have thought about ways that I could get away with it.”

A wooden escalator for bicycles? 🚲

This is how cyclists in Rotterdam can reach the Maastunnel, a 500 meter long underwater bike tunnel. Despite being more than 80 years old, around 8,000 cyclists and pedestrians use this tunnel every day.

Have you ever cycled through the Maastunnel?

What will be blamed for traffic when all the bike lanes are gone and all the cyclists are dead?

🗣️ "None of us use just one form of transport... People riding bikes are simply going about their lives. They’re parents, children, neighbours and colleagues, trying to save money or just get somewhere they need to be."

@chrisboardman.bsky.social on the growing demonisation of cyclists 👇

“Bike lanes aren't just for cyclists. They also help people with mobility challenges get around safely and independently. Most importantly, they make Toronto's streets safer for everyone.” - MP Chi Nguyen

Very well said. Outrage doesn't just make headlines, it generates clicks and site traffic, and makes the road less safe for cyclists.

Yesterday, Mexico City shut down Ave Reforma (an 8 lane arterial) to cars and opened it to pedestrians and cyclists. Seattle can at least close a section of Pike on Halloween.

Something for the "I never see bikes on the bike lane" crowd.
1,637 cyclists today.
1,283,878 cyclists this year.

Ohhhh interesting. I wonder If there is a way to have a bike path through the pedestrian street, but I often find it chops the space in half, esp if there is a high volume of cyclists, especially in the era of e-bikes, e-mopeds, and delivery workers rushing.

It's a small consolation that the murder of Michael Mullins has caused universal outrage: but why must it take one of the most barbaric crimes in living memory to stop the online vitriol against cyclists?

I'm pro cyclist. I don't like cyclists on sidewalks. I find them annoying and a danger to cyclists in the road. I've never feared for my life from a sidewalk cyclist

I once mentioned being positively inclined towards fireworks on social media. I'm telling you so you don't make the same mistake.

It was literally worse than expressing an opinion on cyclists.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills every time drivers insist that they do stop at stop signs and it’s just the renegade class of cyclists who don’t.

Like 95% of people will roll through a stop sign when they can!

I don't like saying this but the Critical Mass protest on Oxford Street is kind of a dick move. Protest cars, not pedestrians.
“Pedestrianisation should not come at the expense of active travel”: 600 cyclists flout Oxford Street bike ban in “mass trespass” to call for safe cycle lanes
At the end of a week which saw Oxford Street’s pedestrianisation – and subsequent complaints about an apparent lack of enforcement when it comes to cyclists still using the road – generate quite a few...
