intriguing! I like spooky Dalyria there, hehe

Oh, and when he loses his shit at Dalyria at the end of the book? Perfect. That's the one of the most unquestionably in-character moments he has in the whole book. And the way Neil performed it? Chills.

The "problematic" part was the paladin being kind to Astarion and not having a horrible traumatic ending. Was Astarion helping the paladin instead of running away in a specific moment (and we can extend it to helping Dalyria), which were things the "fandon" couldn't decided if hate or not.

"he wouldn't have any autonomy, he wouldn't be able to act outside of cazador's influence!"
- violet brings garlic into the palace to torment another spawn which i am sure cazador, as a vampire himself, would not approve of
- dalyria bites victoria. directly disobeying one of his Biggest Rules

You know what if I'm delurking I may as well post my actual BG3 fandom hot take:

Dalyria/Araj Oblodra has amazing ship potential!

And it makes perfect sense there would be "brawn" spawn (aurelia, almost certainly Leon, later) and "beauty" spawn - Astarion, Violet, Petras. Dalyria, and from what we can gather, Yousen, are the "brains" spawn, though we know from the game that Dalyria also goes out to pick up victims with Petras.

(I picture Dalyria very sour about him letting the hyperactive bard he's shacking up with into the vamp cure project lab, until she sees how good she is with that scalpel.)

I have grown to really appreciate Yousen and Dalyria more after the book. All of them, really, as we get almost nothing about them in-game, but those two in particular.

He says of Dalyria "she rarely went out hunting. 'Just as well, really. Her personality just isn’t cut out for seduction.'" strongly implying it's the usual method for most spawn. (Ill be back)

(Just as a canon note here, given the Victoria storyline where Leon works to get around his orders to bring her there and Dalyria plots to drink her blood, which was disobeying a direct command, I think anyone expecting 100% control was really expecting a retcon.)

Petras also talks about feeding from dogs when you see him and Dalyria in the Flophouse.

Not to mention that Petras literally talks about eating rats AND dogs when you first meet him. Like there is very clearly room for interpretation beyond "only rats exclusively for 200 years."
October 16, 2026 at 9:34 PM
The whole ‘thinking beings’ bit with Victoria also makes it perfectly clear that the spawns weren’t and aren’t being mind-controlled for every second of every day, or even most of them, between Leon plotting to get her out and Dalyria plotting to eat her (disobeying a direct order, even).

(*I* got serious "they've all had sex" vibes from the confrontation with Petras and Dalyria when I got to that point in game, but I'm told I'm a freak, so...)

I keep forgetting about Dalyria and getting jumpscared when i see her nickname in posts lmao
October 7, 2026 at 10:40 PM
she wasn't turned yet. leon (her dad) gave her a special potion so that her blood would poison anyone who tried to drink from her. dalyria tried to call his bluff:

I do think the book would work better if it was shifted back a few decades more and left a larger gap between who he is when meet him, but I am not going to use that to nitpick dates! (Also there would probably not be any dalyria, then, so )

And perhaps, because of that, I am more easily triggered than others. But, when Dalyria suggested to Astarion that vampire's minds cannot break because of vampiric healing abilities, that upset me greatly. It felt like the author was the pain and suffering that Astarion had gone through...

I love his snide comments to Petras, I love that he is not the one who bugs Yousen the most (MORE ROCK GNOME CONTENT YAY), his friendship with Dalyria was precious and Aurelia being his comfort.
October 5, 2026 at 9:50 AM
First off the POSITIVE!

I really loved how the book was set up. You get the death of the magistrate first (the wince I winced at the injuries) and then the oppressiveness of the palace. The sibling interactions were ON POINT! I love my freaky scientist Dalyria.

So let's start with the reaction of every vampire spawn soon after they be freed from Cazador's influence, it gives you the magnitude of how deep and cruel is the influence of a vampire master over his spawns (and readers of the book will be pretty shocked with one spawn in particular ;)).

Alright now to discover why Dalyria has created a talking potato
