No student should be denied the support they need to succeed. I reintroduced the bipartisan Alice Cogswell and Anne Sullivan Macy Act to expand access to educational services for students who are blind, deaf, deafdisabled, hard of hearing, or deafblind.

Don’t forget that signed languages cannot be separated from deaf people. Please consider citing the works of deaf, deafblind, and deafdisabled linguists, scholars, and activists at least. Read our work, invite us to present, talk to us!
Hey spoken language linguistics colleagues: tomorrow is the International Day of Sign Languages (www.un.org/en/observanc...).
Please consider how you might use it to highlight signed languages in your teaching and/or research.

It’s International Day of Disability

I like to take this day to remind everyone that I am a whole and complete person as a DeafDisabled person. I am PROUD to be a DeafDisabled person.

Pity isn’t needed but accessibility, education and inclusion is.

…where the framework of deaf liminality comes in eg. being a DeafDisabled musician with speaking abilities closely aligns with deaf liminality than to the idea of the singular “deaf culture”. Hope this makes sense.

Hi I’m E! I’m a DeafDisabled Queer and trans person who is a full time teacher and ASL instructor. I love disability advocacy, community, and dismantling barriers. The government is terrible but community is powerfully and I’m always open to connecting. 🤟🏽

My son is profoundly deaf and therefore we are learning ASL as a family. If you’re part of the Deaf community (or DeafBlind/DeafDisabled) I’d love to connect! #deaf #asl

When you teach people about accessibility, it can be tiring especially w/ people nonplussed about it.

For Deaf, DeafBlind, & DeafDisabled people, the work never ends.

High five to those who teach others about accessibility even when there is pushback.

Never stop. ✊ (solidarity fist emoji)

This is why I left the United States. Leaving means I won't have a deportation on my record that would prevent re-entry. As a DeafDisabled trans immigrant, I'm high on the list of people they'd target to kick out.
Speaker Johnson tells Kristen Welker that he is prepared to fund mass deportations no matter what it costs as he prepares to cut Medicare and social security.

Alt-text included.

Please don't turn away from any #deaf #hardofhearing #deafblind #deafdisabled folks when speaking with them.

Ask if the venue is bright enough to communicate well. Some of us lipread or sign.

When attending video calls, lights should be on you. Not behind you.
