#decarbonize
Every purchase we’ve made to decarbonize our home. Deeply satisfying for so many reasons.
what is a satisfying purchase as an adult
for me it was realizing i could just buy candy at any time
There is no adult purchase less satisfying than new tires.

On account of its altitude, aridity, and sun exposure, northern Chile is Earth’s most #solar-primed location. For over a decade, the country has embraced this renewable energy source as it seeks to decarbonize and reduce dependence on #fossilfuels

this one is very local, but have a NYS Senate seat flip with climate implications. this is the wife of my bud @jeffsseidman.bsky.social, a Vassar philosophy prof who is teaching enviro studies and working on the effort to decarbonize heating on campus

Election Results from my own neck of the woods, my friend Lisa now becomes my State Senator. First time I've been repped by a Dem for this seat.

And here's a piece I wrote a few years back, that goes right at the issue of people calling themselves progressive, and blocking housing at the behest of the oldest, richest owners in cities: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
NIMBY housing disputes are the new climate denialism
How can we decarbonize the economy when we can’t even build apartments?

Okay, we successfully helped bring about a blue wave. Now we need to bring about a green wave by pushing for our local communities, neighbors, friends and family to decarbonize.
Schools can also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality! The Zero-Emission School Bus and Infrastructure Program (ZESBI) helps fund zero-emission school buses and the charging or refueling infrastructure that supports them. Learn more below!

🔥 -16% of Russian oil refining in four days after the end of the "energy truce", - Dnipro Osint

Tonight, the Yaroslavl Refinery, one of the five largest oil refineries in Russia, was added to the list of affected enterprises.

What do you think about it alleviating the rush for dirtier off-grid power?

Struggling with an increase for electricity demand being bad here because an increase in electricity demand is also necessary to decarbonize.

Obv. better if paired with restrictions/taxes on fossil.

Let's not neglect the fact that we're in a climate crisis and that everyone needs to decarbonize their lives asap in our excitement over the blue wave please.

AI can’t fix physics. It can’t fix the carbon cycle. The climate problems we’re dealing with right now aren’t physical, they’re political. We have 80% of the technology to decarbonize, and 19% in the tech pipeline. But from all accounts AI is making the discourse worse, not better.

Weakening the industrial carbon price was exceptionally poorly thought out planning by Fed. Gov.:

From May: "The agreement to delay a meaningful price on Alberta’s industrial carbon emissions until 2040 will hurt Canadian jobs, undermine clean energy investment." - www.pembina.org/media-releas...

The best reason to decarbonize is to deny revenue to Russia.
With oil prices through the roof, Russian oil exports are now at their highest level since the invasion began. Russian oil companies are raking in cash hand over fist.

I can’t stand watching this shit.

"But Dave," you're asking, "where can I find out about cool trends like thermal batteries & cool companies like Rondo years before mainstream outlets like the NYT catch on to them?"

I have an answer, friends.
Why electrifying industrial heat is such a big deal
A quarter of all energy humans use comes in the form of heat for high-temperature industrial processes. Industrial heat has long been considered "difficult to decarbonize," but a new class of thermal ...

Also, renewable natural gas will never be available in the quantities that gas utilities* assume for their bullshit decarb plans. To the extent that it's available we'll need it for hard-to-decarbonize uses, not as some wishful thinking 1:1 replacement for existing gas

But it's still not impossible. If everyone who can afford it were to decarbonize their life over the next two years we could stay below 1.5C of global warming.
It is now impossible for the world to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, with emissions on track to cause 2.8°C of warming by the end of the century, the UN says. Read more: www.newscientist.com/articl...

FWIW this is a great backdoor opportunity to decarbonize US military bases via renewables and batteries
BREAKING: The Pentagon has launched “FORTRESS America,” an initiative ordering major military bases in the continental US to be able to run on their own for at least 90 days.

Bases will need to keep power, water, fuel and communications running independently, without relying on outside supply.

“If we really wanted to ensure the competitiveness of our exporters in the face of CBAM... we should be helping our heavy industry decarbonize. The best way to do that (though it’s not sufficient) is a strong carbon price. That’s something we can actually control, unlike the CBAM.”
Canada wants an exemption from the EU’s powerful Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, a move that would accommodate past decisions to dilute and delay Alberta’s industrial carbon tax while keeping Europe at the centre of the Carney government’s plans to diversify Canada’s trading relationships.

In your opinion, what should be done with the methane collected from landfills and livestock operations and kept out of our atmosphere in California?

Yes, California has not been able to decarbonize their economy overnight but no other major economy has done a better job of making progress.
