8. The world’s two nuclear superpowers are now headed by irrational decisionmakers.
This stuff really freaks me out. They see their future as one where the decisionmakers live in military installations, where the civil and military functions of government become merged.
And actually astonishing when you think about it: The Trump administration's top officials are choosing to separate themselves from the public—more to the point: separate themselves from any visible protest—and live on military bases.

I feel so awful for everyone on this site.
I’ve dealt with this on a smaller scale before, which means I take a lot of safety precautions in my daily life.
But most of those listed are private citizens just thrown to the wolves.
I’m so worried.

I honestly don’t know. I really wish all important decisionmakers and public media pundits who shape opinion would just leave X already!
But if progressive voices largely leave while decisionmakers don’t (and are still influenced by sentiment on the platform) is that potentially worse?

Imagine asking someone unfamiliar with the cases to read this side-by-side with Masterpiece Cakeshop & predict in which case the statements by official decisionmakers were sufficient to make the govt action invalid because of animus.

Guys, I haven’t specifically named any single person (or even named my local network, I think) because I am not trying to air drama. But there isn’t really a good way to internally debate the correct posture of these networks given that the decisionmakers are anonymous and secret.
Then stop putting your community's business out to a peanut gallery of outsiders. Be accountable to people in your community and you won't need this outside validation you seem to be seeking in this days'-long social media campaign.

That said, in Canada at least, many important decisionmakers and public pundits exclusively scroll there — and seem to derive some understanding of public sentiment from it (terrifying, I know).

As an internet culture journalist, I think it’s important for me to continue to observe the depravity that goes viral on X, but one of the reasons I’m glad I stopped posting there is because I think it helps me avoid normalizing the rhetoric celebrating the political brutality in America right now

In the UK, the equivalent state propaganda effort was called the "Cass Review". In the UK this was enormously successful among elite decisionmakers and you can now find real doctors/scientists being smeared in the press for continuing to speak about the harmful effects of the cooked anti-trans study
