And wait until we see, on the other side of the ledger, higher borrowing costs (from decreased demand for Treasury securities) and decreased revenues (from laxer tax enforcement if not also tax cuts).
Federal spending is *up* under Trump according to the Wall Street Journal. Chaos is not actually the same as cost savings.
Actual budgeting is a kind of actual policy-making and takes real work spread over real time. Running around breaking stuff isn't that.

Supply and demand side phenomenon. We stopped investing public resources in education as demand for it soared (roughly by an order of magnitude, maybe two). It’s the same phenomenon as decaying infrastructure or housing.

I keep trying to point this out. There's a category error among many people who think disinfo (and other harmful content) is a supply side problem when it's most frequently a demand side problem.
People want this stuff.

The problem is that you can't stop disinformation if people want to hear it. Disinformation is drama and interesting and more fun than boring reality.
It's like trying to stomp out obesity by telling people not to eat fast food. They *LIKE* it, and they're gonna do it no matter what you say.

This is a brilliant cross-section of the problem, I think. Lots and lots of people are still stuck in the idea that we can short-circuit mis/dis-information itself if only we try hard enough. But, as @qjurecic.bsky.social explains, it just hasn't worked.

The mistake they've made (and in fairness, is made by a lot of people trying to counter this sort of thing) is thinking disinformation is a supply-side issue, when its more a demand-side issue. If there's no demand, there's no community for the campaign to engage with.

I'm sitting on this post for a very special day. If a political figure publicly mocks or politicizes the death of an opponent or public figure, they forfeit the ability to credibly demand universal decorum when death later touches their own side. The world will celebrate while giving zero fucks.
