We need to stop talking about the US as a "democracy." It is an oligarchy, full stop. Or, if you like, oligarchy employing representational "democracy" as a cover. Once people figure that out, they'll realize voting for people to represent you is not democracy and needs to be scrapped. #demarchy

Personally I think we should scrap it and start all the way over with the premise being that the people should rule, and money and professional politicians should be banished from political power. #demarchy #sortition #citizensassemblies

I’ve written worldbuilding for an RP group that uses demarchy/sortition as a major part of government. It’s nice in *theory*, but requires a ton of things including a very educated populace, people who will work in good faith, healthy information infrastructure, etc.

Sortition doesn’t ask of a citizen to pick oligarchs to lord over us. It asks of the citizen to work with other citizens on political problems for a time. There are no parties or pro politics in #sortition (aka #demarchy).

I don’t disagree with you except for the definition of the term. If we limit our concept of democracy to “representative constitutional republic” we’re missing the rich, full meaning of the term. #citizensassemblies #sortition #demarchy
