The deplatforming of Milo Yiannopoulos has been so effective that people have apparently forgotten about it as a prime example of why deplatforming fascists is effective.

Deplatforming Nazis is so successful that Musk purchased Twitter to replatform them.
Mind-blowing stuff from Robby Soave.

"Podcasters should not avoid Fuentes." Of course they should. Deplatforming Nazis is good. Not amplifying them is not censorship.

Also laughable to claim Fuentes has been deplatformed. His growing reach is directly tied to MAGA destigmatizing naked racism.
Deplatforming Nick Fuentes Won't Stop Antisemitism
Tucker Carlson's interview of the right-wing podcaster has begun a debate on how best to combat antisemitic, racist, and white nationalist views.

Too soon to say "deplatforming works"?
Doors were supposed to close at 4 for the Turning Point event that had announced starting time at 5. I got in a few after 4 and this is the scene:

Deplatforming Nick Fuentes was what kept him from being mainstreamed, it worked. Elon's replatforming of all of these people and allowing actual Nazis around is why the US government is now publishing white supremacist propaganda regularly.

This is not a new debate. Deplatforming works.

Queer content gets flagged as “explicit” even when it’s PG. A trans dev making a personal story? “Too controversial.” A surreal queer VN? “Sexualized.” Financial deplatforming in action.

Publicly deplatforming this artist and putting his career and his tourmate’s career in some jeopardy is just my way of inviting him to lunch.
This story is not funny but this Robert Kraft quote did crack me up: “I would welcome the opportunity to sit down with Macklemore and discuss the facts, because ultimately our goal is the same -- peace for all people, an end to suffering, and an end to all hate." www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/...
Patriots' Kraft says Macklemore performance would cross line
Robert Kraft said he had Macklemore removed as an opening act for Ed Sheeran's shows at Gillette Stadium due in part to a "history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery that we believe has been deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community."

The circulation of misinformation on Twitter, now called X, decreased after 70,000 misinformation traffickers were deplatformed following the violence at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, according to a paper published in Nature. 🧪

For years I was assured that "deplatforming works" and yet I've seen very little reckoning with the fact that deplatforming did not, in the long run, work

You make a great point on why you should leave Twitter:

"But leaving Twitter in 2025 is not deplatforming Nazis, it is deplatforming yourself."

You just didn't finish it. ".. it is deplatforming yourself... From Nazis"

part of the ranking criteria is deplatforming attempts, but FIRE's data for this is built of self-reports and news items FIRE gathers, an awful sample. on top of that, FIRE counts attempts per speaker. so if one person briefly shouts during a 10 person panel, they count 10 deplatforming attempts.

At least 80% of that panic was about lectures being canceled. Articles withheld from publication. Teachers investigated — but not disciplined — for classroom speech. "Self-censorship" among conservative professors.

FIRE kept a database of deplatforming *attempts*
