So there was always a matrix calculator, but now I want to see what one can do to illustrate linear transformations, independence etc..

FYI the matrix also works for desmos3d!

Another fun Desmos3D creation. This one shows a hyperbolic paraboloid. You can see the cross sections parallel to the coordinate planes and how they knit together to form the surface.

Desmos 3D is live! I’ve been looking forward to this for years.

I imported a project one of my students did a few years ago in Algebra II. It’s created by using systems of inequalities. # desmos3d

Playing around in Desmos3D and modelled the standing wave of a microwave oven. This is for all you marshmallow&chocolate-chip melting educators doing the speed of light thing. On the left, peaks show high energy intensity. On the right, an infrared pic of microwaved cardboard.

In 2005 I wrote a Parents' Assoc grant to site-license Maple. We used it continuously from '06 to Fall 2023 (esp. MVC) when Desmos3D emerged. While it doesn't do CAS (Maple does), the ease of use for graphing/numericals knocked Maple out. @ecrmaths.bsky.social #iTeachMath #MathsToday @desmos.com

I approach it this way: we want a plane thru L1 that's // to L2. Imagine sliding L1 (keeping parallel to orig L1) toward L2 until they intersect. The plane containing the two intersecting lines has n = v1×v2. We then do dist. from any pt on L1 to the plane. Desmos3d:

The velocity not looking tangent is just a perspective thing messing with me right? I checked the components and it looks like it checks out.

Related: I wonder if they'll have similar buttons for the other planes.

havent been having the best luck with mathematica and keep defaulting back to desmos3d but i do love its splash screen... "initializing kernels" and this thing makes me feel like im going into homestuck world <3
