what part of an unelective despotism do you consider an improvement

It's all despot fetishism all the way down, for brain-melted internet Stalinists too

Way too many people forgot that if the US elites wanted convergence with authoritarianism they baked in authoritarianism's weakness. "War turns into sticking one's prick into a hornet's nest" has doomed many a despotism before. Trumpism was never immune to that.

"No affordability agenda can be achieved with an authoritarian executive in place. Challenging Trump’s despotism and self-dealing with every possible tool goes hand in hand with legislating to deliver on so-called kitchen-table issues." thank you @natashalennard.bsky.social
Democrats, Don’t Mess This Up
With these midterm election results, Democrats have a mandate to fight Trump and deliver for the working class. This is what they should do.

Funny *and* educational but feudalism never existed: It was despotism and authoritarianism with a different name invented by French economists who wanted to pretend this wasn't another form of slavery because of religion and money.

Bubbe, you got it backwards. This isn’t TERFs using “gender critical” to sneak in transphobic bullshit. This is despotism and genocide hiding behind barriers of blanket labels of “antisemitism”.

Former is poisoning the apple, latter is apple rotting from inside.

Yup, time to drag they Overton window back. It is utterly unacceptable for our elected leaders to talk positively about despotism or illiberalism.

Thank you SO MUCH you wonderful, strong, and wise Canadian people. Thank you for fighting, and continuing to fight against Trump and despotism. And thank you for continually encouraging us, particularly in those dark days when thugs and soldiers were first unleashed on us!

God bless all of you.

I harbor them no ill will personally, but I cannot unsee what they have wrought.
They brought the country to the brink of despotism and civil war, and the best defense to be made on their behalf is that they were manipulated by charlatans who exploited their biases.

And they also got more and more of the weaknesses of despotism full-blown while having to try to make that work in democracy, and gaining thus the worst of both worlds. As I said in April 2025 these people are not invincible, and *they* know that damned well.
*Successively*. The Nixon realist crowd got pushed out by the Reagan/Bush neocon crowd got pushed out by the Bush dumb neocon crowd got pushed out by the Trump caveman crowd. Each wave was less restrained & less professional & less capable. And they're not done.
I think you can do worse than to sum up a lot of the Republican Party this century as the story of people who understood American politics overall extremely well but didn't understand their base being replaced by that base

We Democrats have been the only thing that stood between US and despotism for the last 50 years. We are still here when our democracy and you all needed us.

You’re welcome.

I thank Black voters most deeply for their grace-filled, courageous belief in democracy.

and the unelected despotism that has announced you are chattel to be murdered as some random ICE guy pleases strikes you as an improvement, rights-wise... why?

My first vote was in 1990 for Ann Richards against Clayton "Relax and Enjoy It" Williams.

Seeing the state shake off decades of one-party despotism is, to me, an essential expression of the state's unique character. Here's hoping D's can embody that as they govern.
Y'know I haven't lived in Texas since the 90's, should be old enough to know better than to get sentimental about politics, but....

Texas responding to the depredations of the Trump administration by electing a Latina governor is the Texas I fell in love with during my decade there.

Listen, been mulling it over but just.. preemptively I need you to know if I am killed while I'm out there trying to defend the vulnerable from despotism. For the love of god dont let them stick "I voted" stickers on any memorial of mine. Avenge me with something more visceral, more explosive.

From the Constitution:
“But when a LONG TRAIN of ABUSES and USURPATIONS, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to REDUCE THEM UNDER ABSOLUTE DESPOTISM, it is THEIR RIGHT, it is THEIR DUTY, TO THROW OFF SUCH GOVERNMENT, and to PROVIDE NEW GUARDS for THEIR FUTURE SECURITY.”

WE DID IT!

Seems like a bold claim for a centrist to be accusing others of division, given that their position on the spectrum is ideologically situated between egalitarianism and despotism.

Remember, many of those centrists dislike AES because he stands against violent supremacist ideologies like Zionism.
