The code, yep. In some towns they end up being adopted as a nickname (in much the same way as some folks adopt their area codes). For instance Wichita has groups like makeICT/devICT, etc.
In Philly, OTOH, "PHL" is strictly the airport because it doesn't roll off the tongue like "Philly" does.
