Congrats to Simon Zünd at @developer.chrome.com for enabling the source maps Scopes proposal by default in Chrome 158!

It will greatly simplify debugging when working with transformed code. My two favorite features are re-constructing call stacks and variables as they were in the original code.
Chrome DevTools paused on a debugger statement, showing behavior with the scopes proposal of devtools paused inside inlined code. It shows the original TypeScript file, inlining.ts, with a `debugger;` statement in a clampPercentage function, the generated bundle.js with the corresponding `debugger;` in a processCustomerOrder, with other inlined code. For the generated code it has a description saying "In the bundled code multiple functions were inlined into one." At the bottom, the Call Stack panel lists four frames: clampPercentage, computeTierDiscount, calculateCartTotal and processCustomerOrder, all pointing to inlining.ts; with a description saying "Thanks to the Scopes proposal we can still see the full original stack trace, matching the code you wrote" Chrome DevTools paused on a debugger statement, showing behavior without the scopes proposal of devtools paused inside inlined code. It shows the same inlining.ts/bundle.js files from the previous image. However, the Call Stack panel lists only two frames: processCustomerOrder and window.runExample03, with a description saying “Without Scopes information, DevTools are only able to show the call stack as it is in the bundler output” Chrome DevTools paused on a debugger statement, showing behavior with the scopes proposal of devtools inspecting variables that no longer exist. It shows the original TypeScript file, order-pricing.ts, with a `debugger;` statement after the variables discountRate, discountedSubtotal, taxAmount, shippingFee and grandTotal, the generated bundle.js with the corresponding `debugger;` in a calculateInvoice function, where only two variables are left: d and g. For the generated code it has a description saying "In the bundler output, most of those variables are not only renamed but inlined and thus removed." At the bottom, the Console shows that it can evaluate discountedSubtotal and taxAmount, getting their value even if those variables don't actually exist anymore.

Today's pre-scopes source maps already allow basic renaming of variables and functions, but with these new features build tools and devtools will be able to coordinate much better to properly reconstruct the changes that your build pipeline did to your code.

One line to enable absolutely stellar DevTools:
TypeScript code in cart.store.ts. A CartStore made with signalStore: providedIn root, withState with items as an array of CartItem, then the highlighted line withDevtools('cart') with the comment "shows the store in Redux DevTools". Its withMethods adds an add(item) method that calls updateState(store, 'add item', ...) to append the item, with the comment "logged as 'add item' in DevTools"; that line is highlighted too.
