The ceramic craft video is amazing, and the interview led me to this equally amazing wool video. It's a beautiful bridge between physical craft and digital creation. #DHmakes

NEW — I spoke to Tom, the guy at the South Carolina Trump rally who compared the president's supporters to the Jonestown Massacre. We talked about his loathing for Trump, his love of death metal, and where he learned his impeccable comedic timing.

I talked to Tom, the viral ‘Jonestown’ Trump rally guy
He planned to make good trouble. But he didn't expect to be handed a Fox News mic.

Excellent potential for the #DHmakes letterpress friends, who take lovingly handcrafting text to the next level!

this story is extremely wild, major investigation from @josephcox.bsky.social:

'Tis the season for #DHmakes. 💀
TFW your medievalist colleague says “we should print these skeletons in the press from the 1499 Lyons edition of *La Grant Danse Macabre* for Halloween @skeuomorphpress.org” & there’s not time—but he laser cut it anyway & it’s just sitting & waiting for ink so catalog.princeton.edu/catalog/9949...

What does a digital humanist do when power is out on campus? Switch to the punch card knitting machine, of course. #DHmakes

Put the typewriters and the letterpress and the looms in the hands of young people. ❤️‍🔥 #DHmakes
I'm reading the most beautiful student papers right now (written by 18-20 year olds) about the beauty of typewriters; the value of slowness, of difficulty; about how genuine learning takes place, all unprompted by me! or, only prompted by my unbridled enthusiasm for analog tech 😍 we are not doomed!

I love all the manicules and femicules available here. It's well past time for us to put more digits into digital humanities! #DHmakes
The “femicules” we ordered for a forthcoming @sophie-rose-reads.bsky.social project have arrived @skeuomorphpress.org

"Be excellent to one another."
Luminaria #4. Wisdom from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, a fave you may remember from my August glitterpress & queer pirate letterpress boat as well. #DHmakes

"help each other." Lasercut luminaria, using text I like from a neighbor's yard sign. (I'm going to add tissue paper to diffuse the light, when I get a chance) #DHmakes

Does anyone have a better term than “low-tech” to describe physical media formats that are easily reproducible and distributed, relatively low cost, and have a low training/skill entry point?

Enjoyed blowing some middle-schooler minds with textile dataviz today. I told them we'd be using technology to represent fractions, then busted out the looms and yarns and the Ursula K LeGuin quote about technology. Everyone picked a fraction to weave and tried their hand at it. 😈 #DHmakes

More paperweaving experiments, dropping the letterpress misprint strips until I figured out how to make 2! vaguely cubic! shapes (going for a cube pattern). Need to restart the whole with a couple changes to make it easier on myself (3rd layer is tight, paper has no stretch). #DHtries #DHmakes

I got to share a little about my #DHmakes journey. How I overcame my perception of not being crafty to experiment w embroidered data viz. I reflected on how my weaving instructor celebrated our mistakes as we clumsily learned to weave, encourage us to embrace our “makers’ marks” as distinct to us

I've been reading more about craft lately and am musing about a #DHmakes book review series. This amazing book on Sashiko embroidery was the most embodied-human writing I may have ever read, an effort at cultural translation, also touching on themes of collaboration, power & supply chains. 💙

Today's weaving was in orange. The first draft I loaded was a riot of color and I had no idea what it would do. Turned out like a 90s ponytail with lots of hair bands. Switched to something more legible for a while. Some shafts were misbehaving so I had to tack down those warp threads. #DHmakes
