Recently, I also found that the illustration found its way onto the Wikipedia entry for Dakota the Dinomummy.

Gonna SEM-EDS analyze some Dinomummy skin tomorrow. Should I live tweet the findings?

I don't think I shared this here yet. This is the Edmontosaurus illustration very kindly commissioned by @ndgspaleo.bsky.social to accompany the return to public display of Dakota the Edmontosaurus dinomummy at the North Dakota Heritage Centre in 2021.

Happy #FossilFriday from a print we made of the Dakota arm here at #SVP2024. Come pet it and marvel in the reconstruction done by @himmapaan.bsky.social in the informational sign behind it at the NDGS friends booth

One of my "secret projects" I've recently finished is making a copy of the arm of Dakota the dinomummy. Here's the blog update on it with shoutouts to @boydpaleo.bsky.social and @himmapaan.bsky.social and @uglyfossils.bsky.social for their work on the paper/exhibit rmdrc.blogspot.com/2025/04/dako...

Sorry for the delay! Catching up on posting over a lunch break.

@mhouseholder.bsky.social and I set off early this morning to run some SEM-EDS analysis on thin sections of fossilized skin from Dakota the #dinomummy at NDSU in Fargo.

After much waffling about whether I was going to attend, I've just submitted an abstract for SVP 2025 on the dinomummy team's ongoing nonsense. I guess that means I'm committed.

Hi! I’m Mindy and I’ve worked as a preparator of fossil vertebrates for 21 years. I’ve worked on all sorts of projects both large and microscopic. Most of my current work is on fossilized skin from Dakota the #dinomummy.

Happy to talk on our #Dinomummy research with @uglyfossils.bsky.social and @mhouseholder.bsky.social

500 followers seems like a good benchmark to celebrate! As a welcome to everyone, here's one of the prettiest fossils I, an ugly fossil specialist, have gotten to study so far: the Brachylophosaurus #dinomummy nicknamed "Leonardo." @boydpaleo.bsky.social and me for scale.

AMNH 5060: The Flood is a large woodcut I made in 2022-3, depicting the famous Edmontosaurus "dinomummy" at @natural-history.bsky.social.

The same drought which killed the animal naturally mummified its body, and so even after millions of years its scaly skin still clings to its bones.

This research trip's "mommy guilt" present feels a little weirdly self-agrandizing.

Would love to show you more, but I can't without giving away some really cool stuff we found that needs to wait for publication (Sorry!). But thanks for following this thread. Follow me for continuing updates on our #Dinomummy work, and share this thread so others can learn about this exciting work.

For all of my fossil prep friends out there, come join us for the annual Association for Materials and Methods in Paleontology meeting right here in Bismarck on April 14-18th!

Even if you just want an excuse to see Dakota the dinomummy up close!

I checked and yes, this is real, and it's from an Edmontosaurus. 🥹
