“When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.”

― Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship
the purpose of Christian compassion is to let it be weaponized against you. you are meant to die of it if necessary.

"The call to discipleship has no other content than Jesus Christ himself. The life of discipleship is not the hero-worship we would pay to a good master. Instead it is obedience to the Son of God."

–Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Discipleship

“When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.”
― Deitrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship
i’m sure ICE guys with their guns and masks fancy themselves big brave men, but when you see real, honest courage it knocks you on your ass. it’s a glimpse of something holy.
At last night’s candlelight vigil for Renee Nicole Good, Bishop Rob Hirschfeld of the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire announced he had asked the clergy of the diocese to get their affairs in order and to make sure they have their wills written ...,

What some call 'DEI,' the New Testament calls the kingdom of God
Diversity, equity and inclusion are not anathema to Christian life and discipleship, writes Dan Horan — they are found in the very heart of what it means to be a Christian.

It’s really funny that Evangelicals profess to like “The Cost of Discipleship” so much given that they are what Bonhoeffer wrote that book as a broadside against
Seriously?! I thought it was just my horrible brothers who took the 'you're already forgiven, even b4 you commit the sin' as permission to do whatever they want!

You mean it's ALL of them?!! That's terrifying. It's how they've been radicalized.

The way of the cross. The way of Jesus. The way of humility, service and preference of others. The way of dying to self & rising with Christ. There’s no other following. This has been the stunning forfeiture in this generation’s discipleship & we have borne its fruit. In repentance we regather joy.

One of the hallmarks of shallow faith, sadly all too common today's American Evangelical Church, is the replacement of consistent, well-led discipleship with flash and celebrity. An interesting testimony offers more access than well-trained and earned discipleship.

Things I want Dioceses to do (what to outsource): property, HR, payroll, financial advice.

Things I want to do myself b/c it’s why I was drawn to ministry: teaching, discipleship classes, confirmation classes, liturgical design, community ministry, etc.

Why would I outsource the better stuff?⚓️

Deeply disappointed that the amended PMM on the compatibility of same-sex relationships with Christian discipleship failed in the House of Bishops (though not, interestingly, in the House of Laity).

So, uh, I just signed a contract with the Diocese of Rupert’s Land to be the Diocesan Discipleship Developer for the next 5 years. I’ll be based at St John’s College at the University of Manitoba and will be overseeing theological Ed, formation, and discipleship training initiatives for the diocese.

Today, I give thanks for and pray for the safety of Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, who offers a courageous example of true Christian discipleship and of speaking truth to power.

May mercy and love prevail over hate and division, in the USA and across the world.

I should scan the first chapter of “The Cost of Discipleship” so I can keep it in my storage roll

Let's fucking hope so, because Gen Z men seem profoundly disinterested in any kind of Christianity that asks for discipleship rather than grievance

I find fundamentalist religion so viscerally repulsive. What kind of pathetic person would *want* a partner like this?
