The main takeaway from this year’s #Disinfo2026 conference will be about Streisand effect.

We’re at #Disinfo2026, and this is Some Strange Nonsense.
Skywatch got another email from Shellenberger. He’s a crank yes, but Canada, Lithuania, and the EEAS pulling their sponsorship definitely speaks to some some sort of political pressure campaign targeting #Disinfo2026 and now I’m worried about if I’ll be able to get home without harassment.

And there it is #disinfo2026

1) on a pure evidence base the US has repeatedly engaged in information operations. You can even find procurement examples to manipulate youth in Iraq. Obviously with cases like stuxnet - you know there’s milder stuff.
And there it is #disinfo2026

The US State Department has decided to showcase its love of free speech by bullying an independent research conference. #Disinfo2026

"For too long, governments have exploited the pretext of combatting misinformation and disinformation for politically motivated reasons" 🤡🤡🤡

So FrEe SpEeCh, amirite?

Hearing that Shellenberger has emailed a lot of people attending #Disinfo2026 demanding answers to questions based on his own twisted reading of their work.
Michael Shellenberger appears to be preparing another piece falsely claiming that a conference of researchers studying disinformation is tantamount to a shadowy cabal of censorship. Spoiler alert: conferences, in fact, are the definition of free speech. My response to his questions is below.

It’s shocking to hear that @eudiplomacy.bsky.social, the governments of Canada & Lithuania withdrew their #Disinfo2026 sponsorship on such short notice that the banners couldn’t be replaced.
And: I love how the organizers made sure everyone knew that intimidation was not going to go unnoticed. #FIMI

Lithuania, Canada, and EEAS pulled out of #Disinfo2026 at such short notice they didn't have time to redo the signage.

The sponsor list of #disinfo2026 has stickers over some of the sponsors.

Random other sticker for size ;-)

Robin just gave the best pitch for the atmosphere that I’ve heard to date and put it in very understandable terms. Also the suit is even more incredible in person

It was really, really painful today to watch the spokespersons of the @ec.europa.eu refuse to answer two simple questions: Which content at #Disinfo2026 @disinfo.eu was so problematic that the EEAS withdrew its support? And who precisely took this decision audiovisual.ec.europa.eu/en/media/vid...

Also important to note there are only Americans speaking in this panel 👀 #disinfo2026
An example of FIMI (Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference) in action at the @disinfo.eu conference?

Apparently someone in the U.S. did not agree with the topic of a session named "USA as a FIMI threat: acknowledge, adapt, push back" and applied pressure on the sponsors...

It’s odd to be an American speaker at #disinfo2026 after the US government has pressured its allies to drop support … while I’d conservatively say half of what I’ve heard on panels concerns *Russian* disinformation 🤔

It would be great to get clarity on why so many state level supporters pulled out of #Disinfo2026. There's a stink of US meddling about it. I guess US FIMI is the acceptable version of FIMI.

bsky.app/profile/robi...
A running theme of #Disinfo2026h this year is about the US as FIMI actor.

In a completely unrelated turn of events, a few sponsors pulled out at the last moment, including the @eudiplomacy.bsky.social (yet another case of our institutions making me ashamed to be European).
