The aspiration of #MediaEvolution is to integrate a flexible set of methods, from Manovich's #CulturalAnalytics and Moretti’s #DistantReading to traditional #MediaHistory, #MediaArchaology, #SCOT and #semiotics qualitative approaches.

So can a #distantreading explain why these works captured audiences’ imaginations? No. But it does offer a point of departure. It’s a more empirical and historically informed way to guide subsequent close reading than is the name of a composer, a topic I’ll pick up later. 14/14
