Home heating oil is essentially the same product as dyed diesel, and both price off the same distillate market. Expect upward pressure on heating oil, especially locally where supply is tight.

Basically there's less flexibility in middle distillate (diesel) supply and demand is even less elastic (sensitive to price changes) than gasoline.

PADD 1 distillate inventories just fell 8%- in one week- really starting to get concerning, especially with Irving Oil's refinery going down in 2 weeks for 2 months... just 2.3 million barrels of distillate in New England. a 17% weekly drop in PADD 1C as well...

one thing i'll note here is that we are running US refineries absolutely flat out - 97.5% utilization at most recent read - and we are holding ~steady in the [very low!] inventories of diesel [distillate] and gasoline.
