my brother is a Dominican brother - the Dominicans wear a white robe which looks *exactly* like that (... minus the hood)
he was driving through the deep South with some other Dominicans, and some guy at a gas station yelled "WHITE POWER" at them

there's some truth to that and the permanent catechumen stuff was universal (which also exempted them from the inquisition, though) but it was also the dominicans who resisted militarization the longest. i also would deny that it was purely order-based, 'purity of blood' was not systematized

From what I understand from some of the early accounts a lot of the Franciscans / Dominicans tended to treat indigenous peoples as being essentially children, subject to corporal punishment if they didn’t behave. The Jesuits treated them more like regular Catholics

Have a timeline cleanse. The chapter house of San Nicolò in Treviso has a series of portraits of Dominicans by Tomaso da Modena dated 1352. All real individuals, including Hugh of Provence wearing spectacles, the first time they were represented in Western art.

I do also think it is interesting that the catholic church ruled some of Eckhart’s ideas heretical and still have not overturned that, though perhaps they will soon, as Dominicans are apparently fans of his and John Paul II supposedly wanted to.
