The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) begins lowering Douglas Lake, often starting in early October, to prepare for winter storms & control flooding by creating space to hold runoff from heavy rainfall & snowmelt.

Deep grey clouds waft above an almost full moon of deep blue skies across the lake with the rich black of the trees standing along the horizon with a few lake homes lit up in the foreground. Looking out across Douglas Lake you can see the deep blue mountains of the Smokies in the background. Perfect view from my best friend's front porch here in White Pine, TN. The Sun is rising in the East but the mountain are obscurred by early morning clouds. The lush green of the countryside in front of the lake has pops of red wine color from the myrtle trees. I40 bridge to Dandridge crosses the lake from the right side.
