I am a Christian and vote blue. Jesus was for those who were downtrodden. Jesus didn't come to destroy the law but to fulfill it. We are our brothers keeper and Republican Christians don't seem to think that way.

A population full of objectively quite well-off people who want to think of themselves as downtrodden is not going to be receptive to many progressive policies.

I find it offensive to list people making 150k a year and who allegedly can’t afford concert tickets alongside someone who makes 27k and can’t afford a cost. One of those people is affluent; the other is genuinely struggling; good progressive politics can’t conflate them.

Though thinking about this more and more, I think the belief that one would protect or help the downtrodden is built specifically off of guilt. It's like how someone goes "I would have been an abolitionist back then" or "I would have sheltered people against the Nazis" or that shit.
