DQ3HD seems to hit an interesting balance where you can see the cast while picking your moves but it switches to first person when they actually start attacking. this is no doubt to cut down on spriting but it really works for me

Tryin not to seethe about the map in DQ3HD I get that every RPG has a map now but its the fact that it's completely unfogged and even tho I havent played the original I can tell the dungeon design isnt meant for you having frame 1 total awareness of where the exit is. ALL they had to do was fog it!!

speaking of spriting, it's more a neutral thought but spritework in that game is NNNOTHING compared to the DS games. not bc bad but i think DS era looks that good. DQ3HD feels "above serviceable" sprite-wise to me, which is prolly why it bolsters itself with the HD-2D visual flourish. smart stuff

Bravely Default and Bravely Second are comfort food, Tactics Ogre is secretly better than Final Fantasy Tactics (sorry not sorry), DQ3HD is the rare S-E remake that's actually definitive, and the Octopath series got some meat to it.

I'm really interested in how this shapes out. DQ1 can be knocked out in a sitting and exists as a novelty in 2025. DQ2 is pretty brutal. They're now sequels to the splendid DQ3HD and it looks like they're getting beefed up. How do you even make DQ1 an interesting interquel?

it's fine to like a game i don't like. i unQRT'd cuz i don't wanna be too annoying directly. but i do think games like unicorn overlord and metaphor and ESPECIALLY dq3hd are disappointments even if they do a couple things alright (you did not dq3hd)

at some point "qol" goes from nice to fundamentally misunderstanding a game or genre, and i refunded the dq3hd cuz of that overstep. glad others get to experience it but.... man
