speaking of spriting, it's more a neutral thought but spritework in that game is NNNOTHING compared to the DS games. not bc bad but i think DS era looks that good. DQ3HD feels "above serviceable" sprite-wise to me, which is prolly why it bolsters itself with the HD-2D visual flourish. smart stuff

DQ3HD seems to hit an interesting balance where you can see the cast while picking your moves but it switches to first person when they actually start attacking. this is no doubt to cut down on spriting but it really works for me

DQ3HD-2Dリマスターの計算式の話を聞いてクソゲー化したという話も聞くが、従来のアルテリオス計算式ではヌルゲーになるという懸念はあったんだろうな。特技によるダメージ量がそもそも違わないと「この特技意味ある？」になるわけだし。メタルもボーナスであって必須にしてはいけない。

Finally got DQ3HD but now learning I should play XI S first but its $35 preowned... 😒 I just waited two years for 3HD to drop to under 30 bucks... smh... (still waiting on 1+2HD to drop)

Tryin not to seethe about the map in DQ3HD I get that every RPG has a map now but its the fact that it's completely unfogged and even tho I havent played the original I can tell the dungeon design isnt meant for you having frame 1 total awareness of where the exit is. ALL they had to do was fog it!!

Phantasy Star (1) is also in the pipeline but my main path is already looooaaded with RPGs (wrapping up Metaphor and will be playing DQ3HD afterwards) so i can put it off right now

I know my opinion isn't helpful since you did DQ3HD and I didn't but from what I hear these games did enjoy to keep in the old school "sometimes you just have to grind" in them

LRT when I played dq3HD there were some map designs I was cackling at. Like a lategame dungeon with 20+ mimic chests all in a breadcrumb trail. Or deliberately falling into holes and going out of the way for just a medicinal herb. Or the worst poison swamp placements ever.

どうしてスクエニアップグレードパス出さないかな。オクトラ、FFⅩ、DQ11を再びフルプライスで買うとかハードル高過ぎでしょ。リベサガ、DQ3HDはアップグレード出来てたじゃない。
しかもデータの引き継ぎなし。無印モンハンをGへの引き継いだ程度の特典くらい、あっても良いのに。

the best way I can summarize the DQ3HD piece I may never actually finish, is that the remake tried too much to make the game feel "Modern" without changing the underlying structure of the adventure or even the story as a whole in a way that compliments the changes

ぶっちゃけドラクエ1,2,3ってRPGの古典みたいなもんだからそんなおもろくはないんだけど(ストーリー性薄め)私は髄液がドラクエだから結局全身のドラクエ筋が喜んじゃってもうめっちゃおもしろいDQ3HD

It's an unfortunate stigma that's kinda stuck with all of these in a lot of people's minds, but yeah that was a decade ago and they've really figured it out since. I don't like DQ3HD, but like, damn, they absolutely know how to make it work now.

Wasn't sure what to play & did 1 chapter.
A: turning it back on after DQ3HD makes me see just how much they've figured out the graphics system.
B: I might need to start locking in a few main party members. Tried using my weaker guys in this chapter and mowed through resources

Very weird to have this actually release in English. I imagine this might be Horii using his influence at SE, since it's published by them directly instead of another publisher picking it up (like with DQ Dai).
Equally odd is that, by the time it finishes releasing, DQ3HD will be a decade old.

I really wasn't a fan of DQ3HD tbh (mostly because I hate ship segments in these games) but this one looked neat. Shame it's just okay.

just the mp cost went way up. it used to only cost like 9 mp for a bit in dq3hd but they put out a patch cause it was kind of an over-centralizing ability. wrangler was op asf

I love weird games, I love RPGs, but I've never felt the Earthbound hype. Something about the way it looks and sounds, it feels like my least favorite quirks of the SNES hardware in one package. I think I'd need a DQ3HD-style update to really appreciate it.
