I wanted to give /informed-patient some better guidance for handling medical classification frameworks and helping you reason about them. This is still in experimentation phase so I welcome hearing about whether it works or not

I have been watching the dialogue on this one closely. To everyone who is saying "OP is special, no one could use AI this way" well, I have spent 18 months doing significant amounts of scicomm in patient communities and they are ALL using AI this way.

wrote this to help:

Key to efficient learning is realizing how we ACTUALLY learn, not just what FEELS like learning. I wrote a Claude Skill for some friends to help them think about this and they've liked it -- see Principles for some directions you could explore

Here is my Claude Skill for bringing some evidence guardrails to doing a health question/evidence review. It has many opinionated design decisions, and I have written a pretty lengthy README to share the thinking behind it: github.com/DrCatHicks/i...

So two psychologists walk into the speculative agentic coding design space bar and......have a lot of ideas for developer learning!

@mcmullarkey.bsky.social has written a new Skill that we've layered into Learning-Opportunities: Orient!

I whipped up another learning related Skill! Smaller than Learning Opportunities, but very complementary: interactive guidance through a quick research-backed psychological intervention that helps improve learning plans, motivation and commitment

Oh this is fantastic and I also highly recommend adding @grimalkina.bsky.social’s learning opportunities skill to your setup

tl;dr: don't use these things for coding until you know what you're doing, and even then, consciously do things to maintain your humanity and ownership of your code, like deliberately slowing yourself down and taking time to learn new skills with things like github.com/DrCatHicks/l...

To that end, I think everyone should try using this skill from @grimalkina.bsky.social!

10, 11, 12: followups w/same docs. I mention the symptom that came up across my own lit review PLUS Claude-aided (this is how I used it: github.com/DrCatHicks/i... ). Ignored!

13: new doc, millionth times the charm: listens to my puzzling symptom, is SHOCKED previous docs didn't, is crucial data

Has anyone here used @grimalkina.bsky.social’s informed patient skill?

It is, quite possibly, the coolest thing she’s ever built and *legitimately* very useful.

This could really be a game changer for grappling with rare diseases or complex intersections.

This points us toward strategies like:
- continue to invest in metacognition-enhancing strategies like forcing yourself to produce answers (this is why ppl have found my skill useful I think github.com/DrCatHicks/l... )

The learning opportunities skill from @grimalkina.bsky.social is so good. Sooo helpful at my new job. For thoroughly understanding code before I modify it. Catching bugs others had missed because it helps me think through the code so thoroughly!

Good thing that effect mostly doesn't exist!

But you are probably worried about illusions of knowledge/learning. Luckily, we have interventions that teach people how to build against that. Here is one I wrote to help people build metacognitive awareness: github.com/DrCatHicks/l...

i know a lot of you are being asked to used LLMs at work at would prefer not to. if you’re in that camp (or are enjoying them!) i cannot recommend this skill enough. it forces you to slow down and answer questions about the code (what if we did X, how does Y work).

I am forever indebted to @grimalkina.bsky.social. I'm someone pretty knowledgeable about healthcare and its associated systems. Yet, this last month has strained every bit of knowledge I have especially with brain fog and the general stress/pain/discomfort of being the patient.

oh because you mentioned you are 100% ai coding now:

are you using a learning skill? i recommend EVERYONE that uses ai all day do this.

zotero mcp + obsidian cli + @grimalkina.bsky.social's learning goal/learning opportunities claude plugins is so unreasonably good i am in awe about it agghghhhhhhhh

like i can learn in lil bits w/whatever energy i just happen to have at the moment if i do and across most of the relevant literature!

Her informed-patient skill (github.com/DrCatHicks/i...) has been invaluable. Helping me bring together all the information. Highlight missed patterns. Think through "what do I want/need out of this appointment".

Seeing people use this to experiment w/turning Claude time from automated lecture into active learning & self-testing has brought me joy!

I added a Measure This resource to the repo, because my first thought was: how can you all get more credit for this at work??

To be honest a lot of it is underground right now, it's thorough and open conversations with people doing it which isn't very easy to find in academic circles. You can check out some of my choices in the health domain though aimed at helping patients

also i am once again endorsing @grimalkina.bsky.social's Learning Opportunities skill. If you have a git diff you don't need claude to do the thing for it to quiz you, so it's good reinforcement learning
