god the samsung 990 evo drives are straight up a scam
like wdym it costs almost as much as a 990 pro while making my PC act like it has a spinning rust drive inside ffs
DRAMless SSDs should be either regulated out of existence or at least have cigarette pack style mandatory disclosures on them

I'm sorry but I just hate the weird performance characteristics of DRAMless SSDs. Even with HBM and their own software caching layers, they make patching large games take forever, etc. They're good for low power situations but otherwise give me all the DRAM. Anyway, Merry Christmas 😂

i'm gonna be real with you some of them aren't bad. i've used a lot of them and some are straight up garbage. the thing that bothers me is they're supposed to be *cheaper* drives. i think one of my desktop drives (maybe my linux one?) is DRAMless and it works fine but it wasn't the cost of a 990

ok i actually agree with you on this one, the regulated out of existence part was mostly a hyperbole
and like, that's why i thought that the evo wouldn't be too bad in the first place and bought it, i had DRAMless drives before that were pretty ok
but fuuuuck it sucks so much for its price argh

how are the random writes? i think that's the biggest problem with a lot of DRAMless drives. my favorite NVMe as of like a year and a half ago was the Hynix Platinum P41 (but I have to use some weird kernel parameter bc it'll randomly die in Linux if I don't)

Ad occhio è un problema in parte hardware, probabilmente legato all'eccessivo carico di lavoro sul drive.
Gli HMB poi usano la RAM di sistema come cache, quindi peggio mi sento.
