Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s characteristic still point magic realism becomes the abeyance between dreamdeep sleep and groggy waking in Cemetery of Splendour (2015). His penchant of textual fantasy and horror embellishments as mundane tranquility in shared empty spaces feels almost exhaustive here.
A cross dissolve between the escalators of a cinema and a makeshift hospital ward of sleeping sickness patients and their shifting color light therapy A mother duck hurries her babies across an open door Ancient broken statues littering a forest floor An amoeba floating in the sky Cemetery of Splendour (2015), Apichatpong Weerasethakul

There are doors within you that only open when the world goes quiet…
Tonight, listen for the whisper that calls you inward.
I’ll be waiting on the other side.

Title poem of @sarahali.bsky.social's collection 'Theophanies' is rather special ...
Theophanies A pair of apples blistering under the sun— my eyes have been so saturated. Before dreamdeep, I start awake, overstimulated by the stacking of my bones, their caress and jostle. My granted days I could live or leave. Each loaned breath I can—do—waste or wield, straining for the bell in belief. How an arrow flees limb to pierce. How a pen bleeds to grant shape to speech. In each instance of angels’ descent, they soothe: Do not fear, O Hajar, Maryam, vesseled thee. Or is it awe that clamors the flesh? A raptor’s lean shadow for a flash obliterating the high-noon sun: may it be done to me so clearly. Like sirens. Like chimes.

High-noon and Twilight to send you off to dreamland.

Sarah Ghazal Ali / Emily Dickinson
Theophanies A pair of apples blistering under the sun— my eyes have been so saturated. Before dreamdeep, I start awake, overstimulated by the stacking of my bones, their caress and jostle. My granted days I could live or leave. Each loaned breath I can—do—waste or wield, straining for the bell in belief. How an arrow flees limb to pierce. How a pen bleeds to grant shape to speech. A raptor's lean shadow for a flash obliterating the high-noon sun: may it be done to me so clearly. Like sirens. Like chimes. The Crickets sang And set the Sun And Workmen finished one by one Their Seam the Day upon. The low Grass loaded with the Dew The Twilight stood, as Strangers do With Hat in Hand, polite and new To stay as if, or go. A Vastness, as a Neighbor, came, A Wisdom, without Face, or Name, A Peace, as Hemispheres at Home And so the Night became.
